purplebird Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 2Qs: 1) did you guys receive the rejection frm MIT? I stay in Boston and I have not yet received my rejection letter from mit.
purplebird Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I just received an invitation from Boston University to attend their open house. Does this mean an admit ?
josefine Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 probably. same situation with me, never got an official email saying the magic words " you got in"
durlov Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 no notice from mit for me either. as for cornell, i got that response only after i wrote to them.
arlutin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Hooray safety comes through...tuition waiver, 1.5k/month, + yearly fellowship for extent of the program. My first official result...It's a safety but I'm happy and no letter from MIT here yet either.
seen Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 congrats arlutin ,btw which uni? why everyone regard their admits as secrets, by the way anyone heard from cmu ece among us? I saw in the results one guy is admitted there by snail mail, any reject from CMU ece ? it does not have a website for status check, and I have not received a snail mail yet, do this imply that I am rejected? any cent will be appreciated, i am abroad, not from us
purplebird Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Just noticed that somebody got ee admit from harvard university in the result section on 02/18. Does this means hopes for this university are over? Has anybody heard from them yet?
durlov Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 purplebird, i talked to harvard yesterday. here's the deal: they have only 20 faculty members for EECS. so, very few students' goals actually match up with the faculty's research - that is, for those applications that qualify the initial reviews by the admission comm in the first place (and fair to say that if each faculty member is allowed to pick 2 new students, that's only 40 spots in all).. that being said, they already sent out acceptances to students that they absolutely want. sounded like those were the phd admits. the rest of our applications are still being reviewed. but if you'd applied for phd and you wouldn't be happy with an acceptance to just the ms program, then you might want to call them and chat. it sounded to me that at this point they may only be deciding on ms admits - at least it seemed to be the case for my application.
arlutin Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I suppose this may be standard for most schools that send out an early round of admits, but then sit on decisions for other apps. I'm still waiting for gatech to make a decision, but i know some admits have already been sent out. My inquiry however says that no decision in my case has been made yet. Perhaps they are considering masters applicants now.
exp_jw Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Okay, haven't posted for a while, but here is my results so far: Accepted: UCLA, University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign Rejected: Princeton, MIT Waiting: Caltech, Stanford
LifeGoesOn Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Waiting: Caltech, Stanford What program are you waiting for, at Caltech? I applied to Control and Dynamical Systems. I haven't heard anything yet. I guess that if they had been interested, they would have contacted me by this time.
exp_jw Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I applied to comm theory and signal processing, from what I've seen browsing older materials in this forum and others, Caltech is almost impossible to get into. It seems like they send out their rejections at the beginning of April... Talk about inconvenient.
lukas Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 exp_jw when did you hear from UIUC? I have applied there too but they say decisions haven't been finalized yet ... So far, I've received a fellowship from WashUÂ and a professor from UCSD contacted me with a strange offer.
seen Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 a professor from UCSD contacted me with a strange offer. everything is secret in this thread, still, and now even worser, teasers started.
LProof Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 So far: Acceptances: Cornell, Princeton, Stanford (received a few minutes ago via e-mail, no funding info) Rejection: MIT Waiting: UIUC I guess at this stage, I'm mostly curious about UIUC's decision, but not exactly anxiously waiting for a reply given my other offers...
lukas Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I think Stanford has a system that they offer the admission until the 11th of March as advertised on their website and financial aid after. Were you contacted by any Stanford faculty?
exp_jw Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Regarding Stanford's funding offers being made after March 11: this may be the general case, but I just wanted to point out that someone received admission to Stanford with funding for the first year on 2/27.
LProof Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I'm applying directly from my undergrad, so I'm going through the combined MS/PhD program - and I'm not too optimistic about receiving aid to be honest. I hear a lot of people get admitted without aid, especially if they start from the masters level at Stanford? I haven't been contacted by any faculty.
purplebird Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 got my rejection today by mail at MIT Do you stay in us or abroad? I stay here in boston and still have not received the letter.
josefine Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 purplebird, my mailing address is in nyc. hmm, did not get anything from cornell. was it an email or regular mail? or did you check the website? what are your stats, lproof?
k Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Is anyone here in the area of control theory/ robotics/ systems theory? If so, where are you applying/what is your background?
