kim92015 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Instead of approving or suggesting changes to the proposal, my supervisor has been asking so many questions. I feel like as if I'm the professor??? I'm 5 weeks into the Masters program.....
TakeruK Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Are you talking about a research supervisor or an academic supervisor? It's hard to tell what's going on with so few details, but it's normal for a research supervisor to be asking you questions.
dr. t Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) Wait, do you think asking questions isn't a way of suggesting changes to a proposal? (See what I did there?) Edited October 17, 2015 by telkanuru Queen of Kale and music 2
GradSchoolTruther Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Your role as a scholar is to answer questions. Readers want to the "So what?" and "How are you going to answer this?" And you need to be able to boil down those answers to a few sentences, at least when describing your work.

I feel like as if I'm the professor??? I'm 5 weeks into the Masters program.....If I suggest all the changes to you, then what do you learn? Since a master's is about learning how to do research and actually doing it, you need to be able to answer questions about your proposal and planned research. If your supervisor has so many questions, then there are obviously things about your proposal that aren't as well specified or as clear as they could be. It's up to you to turn those questions into changes to your proposal if you want it to get approved at some point.
eeee1923 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Answering questions is actually one of the best ways to access your understanding of said area. It also helps you see alternative opinions about your work and helps you become a better researcher and communicator.
