Hey hey, anyone had any news from Berkeley? It seems pretty quiet so far on the results page. For Columbia too?

I got an email from Columbia two weeks ago, on Jan 11th.  No idea if they're still reviewing applications.

No idea, but if last year is any clue, there's still another week or so of review before they reject all the remainder.

Has anyone  gotten an email asking for a skype video interview from Indiana U ? I just got one today and it's asking for a 4-hour interview since according to them, my TOEFL iBT does not meet the minimum requirements (79-80 overall) even though I scored far above the minimum (116 total). I am tempted to email them and ask about this but I am not sure if doing so will give the wrong impression (or even result in the cancellation of the interview).

Dear Prospective Student,

The Department of Chemistry at Indiana University is in the process of reviewing your application for admission. The Graduate Admission Committee selected you to take part in the next step of the evaluation. As part of that process we want to invite you to participate in a Skype video interview.

You will need to download Skype on your computer. After doing so you will need to add us as a contact. Our contact information is: iubchemistry

After setting up Skype on your computer you need to send me your Skype contact information. Once I have your Skype contact I will send you another email telling you the date and time of your Skype video interview. All the interviews will be next week, February 1 – 5, from 8:00 to 12:00 noonfor the Chinese applicants and a time yet to be determined for all other international students.

During this interview you will be speaking to one of our faculty on the Admissions Committee while representative(s) from our Center for English Language Training will be following the interview to establish your spoken English skills and ability to effectively communicate. It is important that you communicate your response as clearly and concise as possible so that we accurately evaluate your potential to teach.  We do not want you to regurgitate material to us but rather answer questions as honest as possible while paying close attention to your speech and understanding of the English language. If you would like more detailed information about the language proficiency requirement, visit:

http://www.indiana.edu/~dsls/publications/TEPAICIEPEExam.htm

If you are indeed interested in participating in the Skype video interview please respond to this email by Thursday, January 28, 2016, by 8:00 am Bloomington time.

And then in the link provided it says:

The Indiana English Proficiency Exam (IEPE) is an Indiana University entrance exam required of all undergraduate international students whose first language or mother tongue is not English, and all those graduate students who do not present minimum TOEFL scores (see the “TOEFL Requirements” Sidebar for details) or whose departments require the IEPE in addition to TOEFL scores.

Metallocene -- from what you posted, it sounds like the Chemistry department probably just requires the IEPE despite your exceeding the minimum TOEFL score. Probably gonna have to just do the interview, unfortunately. Best of luck!

Thanks, evanescent_wave ! Yea I guessed so too- not sure if I'd go through with it though, 4 hours is a long time and I already have offers from two other schools that I am much more interested in attending. I see in your signature that you've been accepted to UC Irvine (congrats !)- when did they notify you ? And if you don't mind me asking, are you international ? UCI is one of my top choices but I haven't heard anything from them since my applications status changed from "under review" to "being reviewed" a week or so ago..

The email is a bit misleading, but I think the interview takes place during a four-hour window but is probably only about 30 minutes long. i.e. your interview could be scheduled for 8:00-8:30 or 10:30-11:00 for instance. Just throwing that out there in case you would want to interview! :)

I am still waiting to hear from the following programs:

MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Michigan, Colorado

Am I likely to be rejected if I don't have an acceptance yet?

In the case of Michigan, both many acceptances and rejections are already on the results forum. Might that mean I am waitlisted?

Yea now that I think about it I don't think the adcomm would have that much time to interview each potential candidate for 4 hours and also, the longest interview I had so far lasted 45min - I guess I'll just tell them that I'll be doing the interview and ask how long it takes ! Thanks for pointing that out for me :)  !

So am I, waiting for quite a few schools. As of Stanford, I think they are going to send out emails in February, probably in a week or two.

I certainly hope so.  I still haven't heard back from MIT or Stanford, and I'm starting to get nervous.  From what I can tell from past years, Harvard tends to respond pretty late in the cycle, so I'm less worried about that.

If it makes you guys feel better, I am also still waiting to hear from Yale, UCB, MIT, Scripps and Caltech.

It does make me feel a bit better knowing I'm not alone.  Cheers!

I'm actually an inorganic chemist, so I didn't apply to Scripps, but that's great to hear!  Good luck!

Hey folks, I actually just heard about this website so I figure I would contribute.

Accepted: UT Austin, UC Davis, UM Twin Cities

Waiting: MIT, UC Boulder, UW

I got those acceptances back at the beginning of January though if that helps as well.

According to the first-years in my lab, most (though AFAIK not all) of the incoming students who had interviews were accepted.  Some students also got in without an interview...though I don't exactly consider the fact that I haven't had one yet to be promising.

Did you interview with Mircea and Yogi?

The fact that I have not been notified even after more than 3 weeks now worries me :( .........and yes it was Mircea and Yogi for me.

I just got an email from CU Boulder on Tuesday at 10pm with an unofficial acceptance and a "save the date" for their visitation weekend. They said it will take a while to process official acceptances, so sounds to me like there is definitely still hope if you haven't heard back yet! Best of luck!

Anyone been accepted into UC Berkeley or Harvard for chemical biology? For Berkeley, I applied through chemistry but I don't think I've seen anyone explicitly say they got accepted for chemistry with interest in chemical biology. For Harvard, I know some people had interviews/acceptances for the chemical biology PhD program, but people have also gotten rejections? Maybe people were rejected from the chemistry and chemical biology department - the names are confusing ;__; either way, could anyone give more details? #dying
