Not to jump on Prof's party, but since she already knows this, I thought I would share that I got my first PhD acceptance today.

AWESOME NEWS!!!!

My first year has had real ups and downs. I feel pretty good about having survived so far. The main "achievement" for me was teaching a class (I was the only "professor" in the classroom) and grading  the papers. I wrote one exam. That probably doesn't measure up to going ABD (congratulations) or possibly publishing papers (congratulations) but I'm pretty happy overall about the life experience.

Got my first grade back for a graduate course, and it was an A (in the Teaching First-Year Composition course), so I'm happy. Still no clue about the other two courses -- one of which I'm anticipating an A or A-, and the other I truly have NO idea, since there was nothing graded throughout the semester...but I'll take this first A as a sign that my thinking, research, and writing are up to snuff at graduate level, at the very least. I had always suspected they were, but there's nothing like having professorial affirmation. ;)

As the first recipient of an acceptance this cycle, I do believe you get to start this year's acceptances thread! Exciting!

I'm getting published for the first time, and I just got an email asking me to do a final proof of my article so I guess this is real and actually happening.

However, they asked me to write up a short "about the author," which brings that imposter syndrome right back. What do I include? What do I not include?

I guess I'll put this here: I'm trying to spend more time with the dissertation and the kid, so I'll be spending less time here on these boards. At least, that's my goal; we've see if I actually follow through! :) I've been here for a while and made some friends, so PM me if you'd like to stay in touch outside of GradCafe!

:(

I guess I'm lucky, because I get to have face-to-face ProfLorax interaction on a somewhat regular basis, but I'm sad for the board because you are so damn wonderful!

Still, good luck with the dissertation. From what I know about it, it will be a doozy, and academics will be talking about it for centuries to come... :P

PM didn't work for some reason, but just wanted to say good luck with everything! It was fun having you around as another regular poster and then also being a moderator with you!
