Hey,

Did any of you apply to Northwestern's Comp Lit program?

I haven't heard back yet, but acceptance and rejection notifications have been sent out. I am not sure if I should keep hoping that my application is in some hold/wait list.

Online interview at CUNY next week! Anyone else applying there?

Oh wow congrats! I applied there! No interviews so far, I guess it's a no? I am surprised that CUNY is soooo early this year! You're in Comp. Lit?

Yes it is in Comp Lit. I'm surprised and excited for sure! And you never know Wendy! Maybe it comes out in waves.

CUNY interview scheduled for Thursday. Not sure what to expect! Is anybody familiar with their interview style?

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone got rejections from the UCs? There re plenty of acceptances out there and through my research, Berkeley sent out acceptances and rejections at the same time last year. Haven't seen any posted this year?

I'm also still waiting on Berkeley and am surprised I haven't received any news yet--hopefully they aren't just dragging their feet when it comes to sending out the rejections. I'm also curious about Stanford from whom I also haven't heard anything. All I know there is that someone claimed an invitation to a recruitment weekend at the end of January.

Perhaps, it's overly optimistic of me not to assume that these are both implied rejections?

I am also waiting on Berkeley. So far I think I have 7 implied rejections. Heartbroken:(

And why is there only one UCLA acceptance? I see Irvine also notified...I should read Moby Dick instead of lurking here! Help!

In the spirit of positive thinking and making small daily lists for things I am grateful for, I want us to take a moment and be thankful that none of the "Top" programs (though of course this depends on what you want to study, etc.) seem to have notified in any way. The second I see any decision info on Yale, Penn, Princeton, Cornell, Harvard, etc. I will know that the apocalypse is upon us. Also still waiting on JHU and Brown German Ph.D. decisions, though I got this rather terse- and serious-sounding e-mail from the Chair and recent contact/POI at Brown:

"Thank you for your inquiry. As far as I know, the Admissions Committee's process is not complete yet, so applicants will have to wait a little while longer to be notified of decisions. I do know, however, that the Committee takes its difficult work very seriously and tries hard to make the most judicious recommendations to the Graduate School. Since there are always many more highly qualified applicants than the Department has slots available, the Committee's decisions are always enormously difficult to reach and represent the result of extensive deliberation and review, which take into account a variety of different factors. Please rest assured that every applicant will hear from Brown just as soon as the process is complete."

I'm not crazy, right? Like, this is definitely an implied rejection? Every other interaction and e-mail previously was very positive, but this super formal change in tone, to me, moves the dial away from "50-60% likelihood of acceptance" (based on previous convos) to "95% likelihood of rejection". Sigh.

Has anyone gotten one of these e-mails from a program that eventually accepted them? I think not.

Hey, focus on the positive thoughts! I totally get you I am getting crazy as well. Aber nicht vergessen, Ende gut alles gut. Nur abwarten und Tee trinken! Ich weiß dass es hart ist! Hang in there! You have awesome academic records and solid scores. Keep your head high! Princeton is not notifying yet. Neither did any other top tiers in the east coast. The game is still on, nicht den Kopf hängen!

Hi! Congrats on USC! That's awesome! I think I have an implied rejection from USC  and all the other schools that have not contacted me. How do you know that you have been rejected from CUNY? Did you contact them? I am telling myself to wait till march before I pick up my phone and make calls... Hard to wait I am going insane. I wish they can just tell everybody the status at once. Even if there is a wait list, it can't be that long.

Heyy!

Yes, I was in touch with people there. I had a chance to have my paper read at the CUNY Comp Lit Conference this past November too.
I suppose you could get in touch with the schools who have responded in general but not just to you. It's good to remind. Congrats though on your offer from UC Irvine right? I think that's a great school. I really wanted to apply but missed it.

Congrats on USC! Are you willing to share any details about UT Austin's notification? The wait is driving me crazy - I didn't apply for comp lit, but I have seen other acceptances posted. ? I'm trying to figure out if that's an implied rejection.

I wonder if Harvard's decision comes out in waves? Is anyone familiar with their process?

They accepted like 6 applicants last year so it might be that they didn't all come out at once?

Hey thank you! It's UCSB, implied rejection from UCI. I did something very risky and applied to many UCs and 3 in NYC. In addition to that some big names and 2 which are really good fits lol. I am not sure if CUNY have sent out rejections yet. If ppl who knew the bad news got it by contacting the department individually I would just wait. I am very happy with my current offer and pray everyday for funding. Funding is the reason why I am still so anxious lol. I made sure that I would be happy to go to any school that accept me (with full funding) when I made my list. Shameless to say I would just follow the money. International students are not allowed to take federal loans. I read at the UCI comp lit conference. They are super super heavily focused on theory. Especially post colonial. I am interested only in feminism, translation theories and reception studies. Good luck to us all for the schools that have not notified yet!

Hey,

Yes you should wait. Sorry my bad it's UCSB, and since you have that you could hold onto that while you wait lol. It's really helpful to have one funded acceptance right? I'm very interested inclined towards theory, especially postcolonial and continental and hence but oh well. If nothing, there is USC and I'm invited for a visit too :)

Hello and thanks.

You're asking for Comp Lit or English? Mine is Comp Lit. Also, I reckon UT's decisions come in waves but if that is the case maybe you can write to them? Goodluck! = )

Received an offer from Rutgers Comp Lit last week. DGS emailed me and then Skyped me afterwards. Such a lovely and warm person!

Got the official Fellowship Letter today. $30k funding, and they said that if I get another offer (this was the first place I heard back from) and it comes down to the money, I should let them know and they "will see what can be done about that".

I am hoping to hear back from other places but Rutgers has been really nice. Two of the faculty members (whom I haven't contacted beforehand) have been writing in to express how excited they are about working with me and so on.

I was wondering what people know about the program, the intellectual community, placement rates etc.

Thank you.

Or a waitlist? Get in touch with the DGS I'd say.

Btw you are invited for an interview at CUNY. That may very well be an implied acceptance but at least you are shortlisted so congrats. :)
