Question

I was just wondering if it would be too forward to get in contact with a POI regarding my application status if I was in contact with them before submitting my application? I don't want to be an annoyance but she did say "feel free to email me with any follow-up questions" and that she looked forward to seeing my application. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Don't do it. If the POI is on the admissions committee, they probably can't tell you anything about the status of your application until the entire committee has made their decisions and decided to notify everyone. If they're not on the admissions committee, they probably don't know anything about the status of your application. Either way, it's unlikely the POI can actually tell you anything. It's still really early in the application season so try to be patient.

If the professor had anything to tell you, she would've already reached out to you. Unless you have a reason to be emailing (e.g. you've heard from other schools and have to make decisions very soon), nothing much will come from emailing.
