PleaseLetMeInYourProgram Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) So I am trying to get a masters in clinical mental health counseling, and I got an interview. Hooray! Then I saw what it entails. They listed "writing assessment" as part of my in person interview. My concern is what am I writing, and how are they assessing it? Has anyone experienced something like this? If so, what did you have to write? Sincerely, Not so great at writing Edited March 17, 2016 by PleaseLetMeInYourProgram
bluegreen Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 They will likely give an example scenario and then ask for your opinion on it (what you think can/should be done to address whatever the issue is). This was the case for three of the interviews I had that included writing assessment portions (two of which were for counseling programs). I would say don't worry too much about the content because even if you're uncertain of what the "right" answer is, they should expect that you might not know since you likely haven't experienced that type of situation before. Usually they seem to be more concerned with your ability to write, and I feel this way because prior to all three writing assessments, I had the interviewers tell me to focus more on writing well than answering the question correctly.
FutureLMHC Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I just completed a group interview for a counseling program, and I had to do an essay too. It completely caught me off guard because it was never mentioned. The writing prompt was to tell them about the biggest academic challenge I've had. It didn't seem like they wanted anything profound or even a traditional essay, just an honest answer.
