aarushibhargava Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Hi I recently got an admit from a Ohio State university. However, it is not funded. The administration has told me that my only chance of getting funding is through RAship. Since i have not been able to find a faculty who will fund me as of now, I am confused if i should accept the opportunity. The administration has told me that usually student find advisers after one or two semesters. It would be really helpful if somebody can guide me on chances of getting advisers after one or two semesters at Ohio State university. If there is a good chance then will it be logical to fund myself for a year and accept the offer. Thanks
GradSchoolTruther Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Need to ask the graduate coordinator the number of people who started without funding and received it in subsequent semesters for the past several years.

I am in a similar situation, except I have an adviser who is supervising me from the 1st semester. My adviser said that no student in the university where I got admitted has graduated without funding. Funding is usually given after completion of a project or research paper. So I would advise you to contact potential advisers and discuss potential funding opportunities before accepting the offer.

I have already contacted faculty members and have not received any response from them. That is why i am contemplating if I should go for accept the offer and fund myself for 2 semesters. This however, entirely depends on the con version ratio of unfunded to funded students. I therefore, wan ted to kn ow the chances of such a possibility at OSU. Thanks

Thanks Hello, it seems that either the department people are too busy or they are not really interested in whether you join the program. In my opinion, you should join some other program. In my case, I am already in contact with the prof who is going to fund me as soon as she receives the allotted funds from the department.
