I feel like I toot my own program's horn a lot, but we definitely have both at CU Boulder (I do mixed and health).

I was actually going to suggest CU Boulder as well, especially since I had the chance to visit the program and see what it's all about.

Brandeis is just about entirely qualitative and is strong in medical sociology. Note that the most famous med soc professor in the department, Peter Conrad, will be retiring soon, and since it's a very small department the loss of one person can make a big difference. Still a good program to look into, though.

Michigan has Anspach, Burgard, and Morenoff, and new hires Livne and Mojola (starting Fall 2017) all of whom focus on health/medical soc.  It's also common for students to add an MPH to their doctoral program.  Students are doing qual,  quant, and mixed methods dissertations.
