Accepting more than 1 offer...

1BB

Question

Maybe I missed the memo but is it ethically wrong or discouraged to accept an offer from a school if you are not 100% sure you will attend? I received an acceptance really early and had to give an answer in 2 weeks. Meanwhile, I still have not received responses from the 3 other schools I applied to. What is expected? And how are you supposed to withdraw your acceptance if you go with another school?

Don't accept an offer if there's a chance you may change your mind and decline. You will make a bad impression of yourself and might even make the people who submitted letters of recommendation look badly as well. If I did this in my field, I would be embarrassed if I met people from the program I accepted then later declined at a conference or something. My field is small so there's a good chance that could happen..  Ask for an extension.
