NsciApp Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Does anybody know how soon I can expect to hear back from bioscience/neuroscience programs? The deadlines for those schools are Dec 1 & 15. Some schools explicitly state that they offer interviews on a rolling basis. thanks

It could give you a pretty accurate estimate of when other people heard back in previous years. Most of the programs I applied to last year had data updated going back two or three years, and I found it was remarkably accurate. Notifications for practically all of my programs went out the same week they did in the years before. Edited December 4, 2009 by fuzzylogician

Some schools explicitly state that they offer interviews on a rolling basis. thanks I know what you mean. I'm constantly checking and re-checking every day, and it's only the beginning of December! I applied to history programs, and it appears that for my field, I probably won't hear back until February at the earliest. But yet I still find myself checking my application status at the schools every morning and evening. Uggghh, why can't it be February?!?!
Ziz Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Haha I submitted an application last night and it said "a decision could be made within the next few weeks so please keep an eye on this space." FEW WEEKS?!?!?!
modernity Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Yeah last year notifications didn't really start rolling in until Feb/March for most people as I recall. Not that that stops us from checking.
NsciApp Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 sorry to be a moron...which aspect of this site would have the "results" info ppl are talking about? Do I need to just search by school/department? I know it can be really different depending on department.
tarski Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/ There's a link way up top .
NsciApp Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/ There's a link way up top . haha, you would think I would be competent at simple things like SEEING LINKS by now... oh well
NsciApp Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 UPDATE: based on my research on this website and others I've decided to stop checking my apps (neuroscience/biosciences) until after Christmas. Even then...I've heard that a lot of people get invited for interviews via phone.
dzk Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) I'm applying to Neuroscience programs as well. You'll probably get a notification in January/February for most programs (most won't even look at the applications until after the break), and interview weekends are February/March. [edit: Also, you're applying to four of the same programs I am. Good luck!] Edited December 6, 2009 by iggy
NsciApp Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) which 4? How did you pick? I was looking at Harvard, UCSF, Berkley, and Davis, too. Edited December 6, 2009 by NsciApp
dzk Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Oops. Missed this post. I'm applying to Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Penn, Stanford, and UCSD. And despite what I said before, I now have an interview invite to Michigan. Hooray!
NeuroNerd86 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Iggy, congrats! Did you apply to PIBS or Neuroscience only program at Michigan? I'm asking because I applied to Michigan as well (PIBS).
ma7eb4i Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Oops. Missed this post. I'm applying to Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Penn, Stanford, and UCSD. And despite what I said before, I now have an interview invite to Michigan. Hooray! Congrats! Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, what are your research interests?
dzk Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I applied direct, not through PIBS. I think most of the PIBS committees are meeting this week... I'm also pretty sure you guys don't have the same interview weekend (January 14th-17th). My research interests are in cellular and developmental neurobiology... I'm interested in a number of topics on neuron, synapse, and circuit development.

I also have an interview at Iowa, and I am expecting to hear from Wisconsin any day now....
peppermint.beatnik Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I applied last year. My first reply was at the beginning of March, the last at the beginning of April.
workingonit Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Congrats, iggy and NsciApp--looks like we'll all be partying it up in Ann Arbor together. Looking forward to meeting you guys next month!
