manintheplanet Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I know for undergrad the theory is if you get a big envelope you got in, small you got rejected. Does that hold true for grad schools for those of you who have received them either way? I'm dying of waiting over here! Send me my big envelope now!
Torisen Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Most of my notices were email or on the web. I did get 2 rejection letters in the mail so far, both were regular envelopes with 1 sheet of paper inside.
trendytotebag Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 True so far, with the exception of Chicago. Chicago sent a big thick envelope with glossy brochures about MAPH, along with their letter rejecting me from the PhD program. Deceptive.
jms123 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 It is not always true. My acceptance letter arrived as a single sheet in a regular envelope. I know of a few other (doctoral) progams that have "small" envelopes that are sent to admits.
mythsayer Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 My acceptance from U of Hawaii was a 1 page letter, regular envelope. It said I would get something else from Graduate Admissions, but haven't gotten it yet. Guessing that's the big envelope.
bittersweet Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I went by the myth as well, and apparently, there some truth to it. As soon as I picked up the large brown envelope, I noticed it was rather hefty, and assumed I got it. Luckily, I was right.
Optimistic Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 All of my letters, acceptances, waitlists, and rejections, have come in a small envelope, usually a single sheet of paper. So much for that myth!
Grad Lad Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 All of my letters, acceptances, waitlists, and rejections, have come in a small envelope, usually a single sheet of paper. So much for that myth!My acceptance notifications all came through emails, which were followed by envelopes containing 3-4 sheets of paper. My rejection notifications are pretty much big black stones with incriptions that said "You Suck"

Grad Lad Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Well at least they'll make nice paperweights! Hwahaha... that's funny... At the beginning of the application process, I was full of hope. Right now, it's all sheer hatred... hehe... but still... Give me the envelopes! Now!... Mail me something!!
anthrohopeful Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I have emailed just about every possible contact at the school to see if they know what my notification is...and none of them have gotten back to me. Argh! It's already 4/06! any thoughts?
osi Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 It is April 6th, and I am still waiting for 6.. I hope to hear some news today.. bad or good.. it does not matter at this point..
mydragonflies Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Well, I only applied to two schools. I heard from one but haven't received anything yet from Baylor. I broke down and emailed the dept secretary just a few minutes ago. This is getting out of control!
manintheplanet Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 I only applied to 2 schools for Masters. Both small envelopes. One, an acceptance letter from Columbia. The other, a rejection letters from NYU. Strange... Oh well. No step down going to Columbia!
oktherapy Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 NYU rejected you but you got accepted by Columbia?! That's amusing. What master did you apply to? Congratulations btw!!! I was hoping for a perhaps thick and purple envelope, however, my heart sank when I saw the thin, pale mail from NYU. It turned out that I got accepted and being told to send them money (deposit) ASAP, lol.

formula242 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 oktherapy: Congratulations on getting accepted to NYU. It's really incredible news to me and I'm very proud of you! Hope you are doing really well. If we should ever run into each other in the future, maybe we can celebrate. 143 - me
