For those of you who applied to the University of Michigan, I'm wondering if anyone else has found the Wolverine website pretty slow in updating app info? I'm concerned because I submitted my application in early December, and according to the wolverine site my transcripts have only just been received (even though according to Fedex they were received at Michigan in the first week of December). Also, the wolverine site says that none of my letters of recommendation have been received, even though all three were submitted before (one barely made it) the deadline, and I have the confirmation from Embark for all three.

I don't want to call the Soc department unless I really have to, as I know they are swamped with calls and questions right now, so if anyone can help me avoid this, I would be grateful to know if others are noticing similar discrepancies!

Thanks and good luck to everyone

Maya,

I don't have any info for you. I was just wondering if you had any trouble logging in Wolverine. I have not been able to check my status at all. Every time I try I get this message:

Please use your Uniqname and Kerberos password to log in to New and Prospective Student Business. If you do not know your Uniqname or Kerberos password call (734) 764-HELP [764-4357] and select the option to reset your UMICH Kerberos password; you'll be connected to person who will verify your identity.

Did this happen to you? Did you have to call them to set up an account?

Thanks.

Hey Astronautka,

When I got my confirmation from Michigan that they had received my application (not the one from Embark, but the one a week later from gradacknowledge@umich.edu which was titled "Rackham application received), the email contained my UM ID number and the instructions for logging into Wolverine access. Did get this email? If you did, and you already followed all the steps in the email then I guess it's something you have to call them about...sorry I can't be of more help

Same problem here. Also, the website states that they've only received one of my transcripts, even though I submitted them all together in one package!

I'm not applying to sociology programs but I did apply to UMich. I think they're just not updating quickly at all. I noticed an error in the info for one of my degree dates (said 2008 instead of 2009) and I confirmed on my pdf copy of my app that I had entered it correctly. I contacted the secretary in my dept. and told her about it and she said not to worry so from there on out I just assume that Wolverine isn't an accurate reflection of how your app stands. If you received confirmation that all LORs and other materials were submitted then I would take that as a good sign. All my recommenders are listed twice (for a total of 6) online and it all says not received. Don't worry about it too much. It may or may not be updated by decision time.

Ok so I guess it isn't just me! newday, I sent in three transcripts at the same time as well, and the wolverine site says the transcripts were received on January 1, 2 and 3rd lol. MissesENG, I also contacted the department secretary (for Soc though), and she had said not to worry, but this was in mid-December, and she had said to give it another few days. But clearly this is not something I need to worry about if others are having similar problems. Like you said, the confirmation from Embark that all the letters were received is what is important, so the applicant status page is obviously not very accurate (nor updated quickly).

Well, Michigan gets to deal with one less anxious whiny phone call from an applicant today, thanks to gradcafe forum! :)

the department secretary is very helpful -- i think as long as she says everything's good, you're all set. i had a bunch of problems with rackham's application system and she helped me work them all out.

I called the secretary this morning because I wanted to be a 1000% sure. She said that I should go by whatever confirmation regarding rec letters I got from Embark.

The reason why I couldn't log in the wolverine access page was more interesting. Turns out when I did a summer internship at ISR couple of summers ago they created an employee ID for me. Hence, I had to log it as an employee and not a prospective student. I am much less worried about it now.

Hey fellow UMich fans...

I talked to a prof today who informed me that they probably won't make decisions until the end of Feb. (they're just starting to review apps now). So you can breathe easy for a few weeks!

That's too bad! Based on the past results I anticipated the decisions being sent out this week.

I don't think that "breathing" and "easily" are two words that many of us are using the same sentence these days. <insert Gmail smiley with the googly/frustrated eyes rolling all over>. I just want all of this waiting to be over!

Interesting: people are starting to post their acceptances.

Congratulations to all those admitted to Michigan! Just wondering if any of you can tell us whether this was a mass email?

Thanks!

It was a mass email informing that the funding packages will go out next week and we should be expecting a call from a professor some time soon.

Congratulations, Astronautka! I received an acceptance from Michigan, as well.

Congrats to you too! How high is the program on your list? I am excited about the visit.

I really like Michigan's program--great for gender and soc psych. Unfortunately, I can't attend the visit because it overlaps with Berkeley's (and I've already made travel and prof meeting arrangements for Berkeley). But I'm definitely looking forward to speaking with some professors at Michigan. I imagine that the profs they mentioned would call us will be those in our respective interest areas.

Congratulations to focused and astronautka, as well as the others accepted to Michigan (there seem to be quite a few on the results board). Since it was a mass email and I'm not international (Canadian usually doesn't count in terms of admissions notifications), it's clear that I didn't get in, and it is disappointing because I had been in contact with a professor there and he had been pretty supportive of my application. But I'm happy for those of you who had more success, I have heard wonderful things about Michigan sociology.

Have a great weekend celebrating!
