Konstantin Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Hi all, I am creating a discussion topic for SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship applicants. Today is the deadline to apply, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a place to ask questions, share our experiences, and wait together for the competition results! Edited September 21, 2016 by fuzzylogician Edited title at OP's request
magicbird Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Thank you It will be nice to have others to be nervous with!
Skittish Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Hi. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I was just hoping to confirm that the SSHRC and others like it are NOT for international students? Thanks so much!
Konstantin Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 You are correct, Skittish. SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowships are only for Canadian citizens and permanent residents! Hope this helps! Skittish 1
magicbird Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Not yet, there is some more info. on academic jobs wiki here: http://academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/SSHRC_2017-2018 Although, are you looking for doctoral fellowships? They come out much later!! Konstantin 1
Konstantin Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks for posting the link, magicbird! I was on their forum the other days and saw someone' post who contacted SSHRC and received a reply that the results would be sent out late February, which I thought was unusual because it's always been mid-February. But, seeing SSHRC is behind schedule with notifying Banting applicants, it seems likely that we'll be finding out closer to the end of Feb.
kitty_mimo Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 wow! thanks so much for the link! that's exactly the kind of info i wanted to read while waiting it's giving me a little bit of hope
Konstantin Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) SSHRC just tweeted that the results will be mailed out this month (without specifying a date): Edited February 17, 2017 by Konstantin
turkergirl Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) Taking mail travel time into consideration, I suspect this could mean that one might receive the mailed out result by early March, no? Edited February 20, 2017 by turkergirl
Konstantin Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 @turkergirl That's exactly right. Folks in Western Canada, the US, and beyond will receive their letters much later than Ontario residents, depending on their location. I'm in Ottawa so I'll post a note when I receive mine
Abyss21 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I already received mine in the mail today and it was a rejection. I'm pretty bummed out because I'm now wondering whether my proposal was just not strong enough. I ended up using an altered version of the SSHRC proposal as my PhD application SOP, so that has me concerned about how the rest of my PhD application results will play out.

You received a letter regarding results for the postdoctoral awards? Sounds to me like you're currently applying for PhD programs... Sorry if I just misunderstood your post!

I applied to the SSHRC doctoral (not the postdoctoral) and got a letter that told me I wouldn't be advancing to the national competition. I just realized that this is the postdoctoral forum though so sorry for the confusion my post has caused!

Still no letter...

I'm in Canada, so that might be why I heard earlier. It probably takes longer for the mail to arrive in the US. I'm not even sure why they use such an archaic system rather than just email haha. genderboi 1

Haven't opened it yet, but don't think it can be good news, since so far no one has mentioned being forwarded to the National competition....
turkergirl Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Oops! I made the same error as @ThePomoHipster. I also applied for PhD award, not the postdoc one. Got my letter, just haven't opened it yet.
Disco2000 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Friday the 24th of February and still nothing at my house in Hamilton. Ugh. For a short month this February sure has been long! It looks like we might not hear until March unless they notify by email? Have a stress-free weekend everyone!
Konstantin Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 SSHRC just tweeted that results have been mailed. Good luck everyone! https://twitter.com/SSHRC_CRSH/status/836939228403597319
Kaymarie Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Hey all! Anyone else waiting for answers for a SSHRC postdoc? I applied in September 2017. Fingers crossed.

Kaymarie Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Ugh... waiting is the worst. Best of luck to you and let’s keep each other posted!
Nalini Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Same here! I've been checking the mailbox every day!
lackingpatience Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Waiting is torturous, but I'm glad there are a couple of others out there to commiserate with! From last year's thread it looks like they mailed the results on March 1st last year (and tweeted about it when they did). I've been checking up on the SSHRC twitter feed, but we could have another couple of weeks to wait... ugh!
