Hi everyone,

So my rec did not put the LOR on letterhead. At least I do not think, I mean the envelope is just a plain white envelope. Meanwhile, I put my SOP on a business like 100% cotton paper. So I was thinking of asking this rec to re-print the LOR on my cotton paper or on letterhead. Do you think it would be rude for me to ask my REC to re-print the LOR? He already told me he's willing to do a letter for another program as well. I know that he WILL do it, I just want to know if you all think this comes across as snooty? Or am I just obsessing over nothing? I assumed that he would put the letter in the schools letterhead paper and envelopes like another rec had. The admissions does not say that it HAS to be on letterhead though. Instead they have one of those forms and he wrote me a letter to accompany the form. Do you think an adcom will look down upon a letter that is NOT on letterhead? I planned on mailing this in the morning, but now I'm not sure.

Please let me know what you all think.

Thanks

Just because s/he used a plain white envelope doesn't mean that they did not use letterhead...in addition if the school doesn't specifically ask for it, it shouldn't be a problem. If you know your professor well enough, and they'll understand you're just obsessing over details and not trying to insult them I would say sure - if it's what you need to feel like you've done all you can. If you don't know them that well, I would be careful, as this could come across as slightly insulting.

LMAO I'M BEING AN IDIOT? Well, thanks in that I do not want to be one. Wow, but I did decide to send it off as is. I sent it this morning so now all there is to do is wait. I feel somewhat relieved in that now the outcome will be what it will be... I think I had some last minute freaking out.... but I'm normal again. So see not an idiot after all! lol

I'd definitely get it printed on letterhead. I once made the same mistake as you and a school sent it back to me saying they needed it on letterhead or they wouldn't accept it. It's more professional looking and adcoms will put more value on it if it's on letterhead. Even if schools don't specify it needs to be on letterhead I'd do it anyways. Your recommender, especially if it was a prof should've known this.

If the schools have problems with it, especially if your recommender is in the field, the adcomm may contact the recommender directly. But this is one of those things that's "out of your hands" and unless it seems like you yourself wrote the recommendation, I don't think any programs will consider it negatively. Assuming its an academic recommender. If it's an employer then I think they may want it on letterhead.

It's Academic and you're right its out of my hands because I've already mailed it off! If the worst that could happen is that they contact my rec, then I should be good to go. My rec won't mind and would speak highly of me. I've decided to not even worry about it. I think it will be fine. Also, the letter may have been on letterhead, so hopefully it was.

Thanks for the replies!
