fsowannabe Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Got mine today as well. Congrats! You too! I know it didn't say in the email but do you have any idea about when funding decisions come out and the likelihood of getting funding?
mararum Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Joining the crowd; I just got the email as well. A question to those who might know--is it typical for schools to contact you so early? I submitted mines on Jan. 15. My application, actually, never even said that it was completed.

I submitted mines on Jan. 15. My application, actually, never even said that it was completed. Mine said it was completed 1/18, so I was very surprised to get notice so early. I haven't a clue about funding, but is it in poor form to hope that they follow a first-come, first-served policy?

mpa2012 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Would any of you care to share your stats? I'm still anxiously awaiting any word from GPPI...
steiner-5 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Would any of you care to share your stats? I'm still anxiously awaiting any word from GPPI... sure, Ive worked in finance for 6 years after graduating GW with a BBA. 3.22 undergrad gpa. 780 quant, 680 verbal, 4.5 AW.
Bubal Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Would any of you care to share your stats? I'm still anxiously awaiting any word from GPPI... So do I
oxana Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 So do I Sure! I got accepted too for MPP to GU and GWU, and I love that they did this pretty quickly. GU requested and I had to send in an essay for scholarship consideration too last week. They said I will find out Feb 26 regarding their decision, but they only notified me within 24 hours of the deadline! I wasn't too happy about that since I had 3 other scholarship applications due the next day also! My stats: 1. Mech. Engineering major, gpa 3.95, GRE: Math 730, 600, 4.0. I want to study Public Policy for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, also leaning toward international. I'm a citizen but I lived in Russia, and South Korea (each a third of my life). I have coop/internship experience of 1 year in engineering fields (3 different companies/institutions), had a part time job in solar cell research in college. I am just graduating which is supposedly not something they prefer, and I also was afraid that maybe they won't like engineering to policy direct switch since I took almost no classes in public policy nor did I have any experience. It was a very clean cut total change of direction for me. I am pretty happy to do something totally different since I learned I love learning engineering but not actually doing it - don't want a career working at a factory, but I definitely have much respect for that community. I hope this helps. If anyone has similar interests or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions.
sky_blue Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 yay! just received my acceptance email from GPPI. hopefully more acceptance will be on its way
RH7 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 yay! just received my acceptance email from GPPI. hopefully more acceptance will be on its way Congrats sky_blue! But I'm afraid thats looking less and less likely with each acceptance... WHY do rejections seem to come last WHY?! It's bad enough to make people wait, but then to reject you after is just doubly cruel . RH7 1
tbonetrain Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Congrats sky_blue! But I'm afraid thats looking less and less likely with each acceptance... WHY do rejections seem to come last WHY?! djdh Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 yay! just received my acceptance email from GPPI. hopefully more acceptance will be on its way Do you mind sharing when you completed your application? My app was completed quite late. I am just wondering I haven't heard from them because I am rejected or they are still processing more applications. Congrats and thanks!
Minerva473 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I got my acceptance email last night, for the MPP at the GPPI . I submitted my application on January 14th, but they had some trouble processing my application and I received confirmation that my application was reviewable by the committee on the 3rd of this month.
DCApplicant Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I heard a rumor that the admissions office is really behind at GPPI due to snow and the fact that they only have two people reading this year. Though I'm nervous too I find this info calming. Good luck everyone!
go_blue Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi everyone- I also got an acceptance email yesterday! But wanted to say: for those who haven't heard- while I was waiting, I assured myself that there was an GPPI applicant last year (from last year's threads) who was admitted in March with a generous scholarship. So just because you haven't heard isn't necessarily a bad sign- it could be that they haven't gotten to your application yet. I have to say, I was a bit freaked out when people heard about their acceptances a couple weeks ago, but let's admit it: this board is definitely simultaneously helpful and a source of stress. And also my stats- because I greatly appreciated it when others posted theirs: 3.7 GPA (3.99 within major, but my major was English hah), 640-Verbal, 760-Math, 5-Writing, work experience: 4 month internship at non-profit, 7 months part-time research during undergrad (but very relevant to what I want to study), 1.5 years research after undergrad. I think my work experience has been very relevant to what I want to study (social policy) and did my best to link everything together in my SOP. Good Luck! and hi to my potential future classmates!
oxana Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi! Welcome! How seriously are you considering GPPI? Also, I see you applied for HKS, would you let us know if you ever hear from them? Thank you. I wish they didn't make us wait for so long! Till April! Nuts! I need to plan my life accordingly... Oxana. Hi everyone- I also got an acceptance email yesterday! But I never got an email about sending in a scholarship essay and the email didn't say anything about funding... do you think that means I'm not eligible for a scholarship? oxana Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Definitely not for this one probably, unless you just did not need to submit the essay because you clearly indicated why you want to go to GPPI. (That's what the essay asked for, and some of you have already probably answered that in your personal statement. I, however, did not.) Don't put your hopes low though, because they probably have many opportunities. There is no way that they can decide on how much money they give out at end of February! Plus, they probably did not even look at all the applicants yet. It's just not possible. They probably have several rounds, so don't worry about it. You will be considered for funding in the next round, or one after. I got mine yesterday as well! But I never got an email about sending in a scholarship essay and the email didn't say anything about funding... do you think that means I'm not eligible for a scholarship?
Minerva473 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I think that last year they had at least 2 scholarship rounds (based on these message boards). I hope they're doing another one this year!
sky_blue Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 hey guys, if you havent gotten a reply from GPPI, you might want to email them. i remembered reading somewhere that decisions are usually made 6 weeks after your application is completed. i submitted my application on 15 jan, but one of my transcript only reached them on 8 Feb.they made a decision on the 23 feb, so maye that transcript was a big factor. anyway the admission team at GPPi has been very responsive to my emails so far, so no harm asking. btw anyway knows how the tuition system works in GPPI? is there a maximum number of credits you can take per semester? i am pretty sure i wouldnt get any form of scholarship as i don't have full time work experience. I am also not eligible for loans since i am international. so i am wondering if i can possibly finish the mpp in 1.5 years instead of 2 and save some tuition.

Just to clarify sky_blue, did you find out your decision in a solicited email response or an automatic email sent from GPPI once the committee reached a decision? I've been assuming that if I haven't heard, they haven't made a (positive) decision... thanks!
Bastille Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 It appears that another round of acceptances has gone out today. And I'm happy to say I've tricked them into thinking I'm sufficiently worthwhile to admit. Email states that financial aid information will come out in a week or two. All things other things being equal (i.e., disregarding weather, financial aid, architecture, etc.) I feel like Georgetown has an excellent curriculum, and is obviously very well positioned for policy internships. Do any of you have a sense for the strength of GTown's career office, and for the regard with which GPPI is held within the larger University? (For example, how easy is it to get into GULC classes?)
go_blue Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 congrats Bastille! @oxana- I would be very happy to attend GPPI, but am not sure about the cost...(same goes for all the schools I applied to, really) coincidentally, I just recieved an e-mail requesting a scholarship essay due this Wednesday. They do have a second round of scholarships, so fingers crossed!
