mpa2012 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I'm not sure what is happening, but I got a duplicate admissions email this morning. I received my first admissions email March 2nd saying that I will hear more within 10 days (including funding information). After I didn't hear anything, I tried to contact the admissions office thinking there was a problem...and in response I received the duplicate email. Is anyone else having trouble getting more information? GPPI is definitely one of my top choices, but only if I can secure some funding. How do I get out of this admissions mobius strip? This EXACT same thing happened to me. Accepted March 2nd, then silence, followed by a duplicate admit email this morning. I just want my funding (or lack there-of) information!
Saladin Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 People, any idea if GPPI is still sending out acceptances? I wish they would tell me already, one way or the other!
Bastille Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 This EXACT same thing happened to me. Accepted March 2nd, then silence, followed by a duplicate admit email this morning. I just want my funding (or lack there-of) information! Haha, yeah. I received two emails this afternoon: one about the open house, the other a duplicate acceptance letter. I was promised last week that I'd hear about financial matters this Wednesday, as the council would be meeting Monday (i.e. two days ago). This does not give me a great deal of confidence in the administration.... Anyway, is anyone attending the GPPI admitted students day on March 26? Unfortunately, this conflicts with Duke. And the April 9 day conflicts with Chicago. And Michigan. And CMU. Grr.... why do they all have to use the same weekends?

I guess they all want to make that lasting impression before April 15th. I'm going to CMU on the weekend of the 9th because it is the program that I know least about, most hesitant about, and is offering me the most money. I may try to make it to the March 26th day, though finding a flight from Los Angeles may be difficult at this point. Edited March 17, 2010 by Putoots
samdrums11 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Does anyone who got the email about scholarship consideration have any idea how long a "short statement" should be? Are we talking 150 words or 500? I really don't want to do it at all so I prefer 150, but I don't want to seem like I don't care. Thanks for your help!

I got an email about the scholarship essay yesterday--I was going to send in a one page single spaced essay--748 words--too long?
Five04 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Does anyone who got the email about scholarship consideration have any idea how long a "short statement" should be? Are we talking 150 words or 500? I really don't want to do it at all so I prefer 150, but I don't want to seem like I don't care. Thanks for your help! I submitted a one page, single spaced letter (with a bit of space at the top and bottom for header, signature, etc). I struggled with the tone and content much more than length; the email asking for the statement indicated that they consider interest in their program to be an important factor in their scholarship deliberations. The statement i submitted was as GPPI-specific as I could make it in order to show that I had done my homework about their institution. It still felt a little too generic in the end. I was notified the following week that they wouldn't be extending a scholarship to me at this time, so make of my experience what you will. I was not exactly in a condition to write such a statement either. I received the email on a Wednesday evening, notified that I had to submit the statement by noon EST that Friday, all while I was in the middle of a business trip and not scheduled to make it back home until Thursday. Still, if it nets you even a tiny morsel of scholarship funds, I think anyone would consider it time well spent..

I got the email on Saturday and they want a response by Tuesday night. I'll see what I can do.
intelman3130 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Has anyone received a physical letter of admissions yet? I was admitted on the 23rd of February and have yet to actually see a letter of admissions. I am getting worried because their deadline to reply is April 15th and I am seriously considering another program. Any and all insight would be appreciated :-)
sky_blue Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 i was accepted around the same time as you but did not receive any letter. i emailed them last week and they said the letter will be DHL-ed or fedex-ed to us this week. so don't worry! Minerva473 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I received my letter via FedEx last week. I live abroad in a major city and it's likely given that they HAD to FedEx it (other methods can take weeks) it may have arrived more quickly than letters sent inside the US.
intelman3130 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Thank you for your replies. I also called the admissions office today and they informed me of the same thing, so hopefully I'll see a hard copy of the letter this week... Another question, do you guys know if assistanceship/fellowships come with the admissions packet or are you notified about them in the scholarship round?
stucktomyshoe Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 For those of you who have gotten something in the mail already, was financial aid info included? All I'm waiting for before I make a decision is to hear from is how much money I'll be getting from GPPI.
Minerva473 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) Information about my scholarship was included in the envelope (I had already been informed of it by e-mail), but not need-based aid. Edited March 25, 2010 by Minerva473
candesweet2 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Information about my scholarship was included in the envelope (I had already been informed of it by e-mail), but not need-based aid. Hello All, I have been accepted in to American University's SPA program and still waiting to hear from GPPI MPM program. Should I just assume that I was not admitted to GPPI MPM program? I notice most comments are for MPP. Any information will help with MPM decision process. Thanks.Congrats to allwith favorable results. :-)
mpa2012 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Is anyone going to the open house tomorrow? I'm unable to make it, but would love to hear any impressions anyone has after attending.
samdrums11 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Information about my scholarship was included in the envelope (I had already been informed of it by e-mail), but not need-based aid. What kind of scholarship did you get?
Minerva473 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 What kind of scholarship did you get? $20k per year. By the way, I was reading through last year's threads and apparently around the time of the Admitted Students Day they still had not allocated all of the funding. I'd love to hear from anyone who is visiting as well.
Putoots Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I'm still waiting for an admissions packet or confirmation of my acceptance from the Graduate School. Is there anyone in California who has received a packet or any contact other than the first one from GPPI and scholarship?

stucktomyshoe Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Has anyone who sent in a scholarship essay that was due 3/23 heard anything back yet? We were supposed to hear something today, but it's already 3 pm EST... I'm antsy to hear how much I'll be getting so I can just make a decision already!

Yeah I was in the earlier scholarship round and they didn't tell us until the day after the day they said they were going to tell us. Happy waiting!
