Hi all,

I saw some Ohio State acceptances posted on the results search recently and was wondering if anyone would come forward to claim them. If you've been accepted, would you mind sharing your stats/field? Most importantly, congratulations! OSU has a great program.

Otherwise, is there anyone out there who has applied to OSU but who has yet to hear anything? My app status is still listed as having been "sent to the graduate program for academic review," and I'm worried that I'm missing the huge rejection letter that may very well be hidden within the application interface and that my technologically-challenged self can't find. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm unsure as to whether to take the fact that there's no acceptance OR rejection letter (at least that I can find) as an implicit rejection (psychologically, I'm already preparing myself for such a thing unsure.gif).

I'm still waiting as well. I wouldn't give up hope yet, though. It looks like last year the acceptances came in over a pretty long period of time.

Although I have no 'insider' knowledge, I would not take the silence as a rejection. My application status still reads 'academic review,' and I'm fairly certain it's because OSU hasn't finalized their decisions. Looking at the results from previous years, it seems they don't make all their offers at the same time. Plus I know from experience that your application status will change to a transparent rejection if you don't get in. At the very least it will read 'converted' to indicate that a decision has been made; you won't have to dig around to find out that you didn't make the cut. But I wouldn't give up hope just yet. They've got a huge program, as I'm sure you know, so I'm nearly certain more admits are on the way!

I just found out that I got in when I saw an earlier post in the results and checked out my status! I am officially into the MA program en route to the PhD. I am new to the forums, so I'm not sure which info to post, but I'll throw up everything that I have.

GPA Cumulative: 3.75

GPA Major: 3.8ish

GRE: 740/ 690 5.5 (My physics major friend got a 6, and I just about shot him.)

Subject GRE: 670

I went to one of those small liberal arts colleges in the midwest, and I could tell you how my statement of purpose, writing sample, and recommendations stack up against other applicants. I'm focused on 19th century Brit. Lit. with an emphasis on Victorian novels and formalist theory. Anything else I should include?

Yeah, I've been wondering about all this stuff as well. My status checker still says "academic review". Curses.

Hi everyone,

I posted one of the OSU acceptances. I wouldn't worry about not having heard yet. This is the first program I have heard anything from. I also applied to Michigan and Northwestern (both of which have sent out acceptances, rejections, and waitlist notifications). I haven't received any of the 3 from those schools, and I wonder if it is because I am somewhere "in the middle" of the pack (not first-round pick and also not right below those applicants who are close enough to be waitlisted). I think as people start to make their decisions they will start hearing from schools as spots open up. The idea that I got from reading other posts was that the programs are trying to be conservative this year and not offer the top 17 candidates if they have 12 spots...someone had posted something about one program last year getting almost all acceptances and then not having enough funded spots.

In previous years, OSU has notified fellowship nominees first and notified the rest of the acceptees later. Everyone there is fully funded, but some are funded by fellowship in the first year (and sometimes subsequent years, depending on the fellowship), while others are funded by assistantship. Good luck to anyone who applied. I enjoyed my time there quite a bit.

Siblance,

Did you do your undergrad or some grad work at OSU. I just got accepted and I was wondering when we would receive the full financial aid info (and I didn't want to call because I am sure they are swamped). Interested in you input. Thanks for the comment, it was very helpful!

The English department is awaiting approval from the graduate school for the funding packages that they plan to award before contacting those applicants who have been accepted thus far - worry not.
