Hello, fellow applicants. According to the results board, it's almost that time. No news yet on my end.

I e-mailed a couple of professors at Chicago prior to the application deadline to express my interest in the program. Most of them e-mailed me back and sounded encouraging.

Has anyone else spoken to any faculty member and/or staff at Chicago recently? I wonder whether the adcom is close to making offers.

So far I've received dings from two schools that are lower on my wishlist (i.e. less of a fit). I managed to get over the news fairly quickly but am now getting more apprehensive about my application at my first-choice school.

Good luck, everyone! Hope we all get good news soon!

I have heard from the faculty at UChicago but I'm in social psych so I don't know if that helps at all...

Did anyone else get a cryptic email this morning that said something along the lines of "We have forwarded your application to our admissions committee in the Department of Sociology, and are in the midst of making the complex and difficult selections from among a large number of highly qualified applicants?" The timetable they are indicating is early March - does this mean I am on some kind of waiting list?

Hmmm...according to the results page, someone in the history department got the same email this morning.

Is this email most likely good news or bad news (considering the 2 acceptances to Chicago yesterday)?

i got the same email...and at the same time invited to their prospective students weekend. dont know what it means, does it mean its still completely diagnostic at this point?

Depending on when the admit weekend occurs. If it's in early March, then I'd say that we probably are in the "rejected" pool.

When is the "prospective student" weekend?

hmmmm the one i've been invited to is Feb 27-Mar 1. guess it sounds more like an interview.

You're probably still in the running then. It probably wouldn't hurt to confirm your status with the department though.

I would be interested in hearing about people's visits to Chicago in March.

im just really hesitant about asking explicitly whether im accepted or not, esp. considering the email that a lot of people received this morning about how official acceptances wont be out until early march.

that being said, it is a little frustrating not knowing what the status is on my application.

My feeling is that since all applicants to departments under the Division of Social Sciences go that e-mail, included those who had been accepted already as well those who haven't heard, it's just a standard mass e-mail that is no indication of any admissions status. They're probably just sick of people asking and want to give them something to chew on for a while. I wouldn't be concerned with it one way or the other.

Yes. I received my acceptance email before the mass mail was sent. So it was slightly bizarre to read the latter when it popped up in my inbox.
