Medievalmaniac Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Thank you! My area is the Restoration and Eighteenth Century. Anyway, I really wish I could offer more in the way of information. To be honest, since I was on the road when I received the call, the conversation was limited mostly to finding out that I'd been admitted and that I'd gotten funding. When I talk to Prof. Hunter again, I will try to work out some of these details and report back. I'm not sure what the earliest admit result was, but I'm thinking that they definitely aren't following any sort of intelligible system up there in Charlottesville. Fingers crossed for everyone! Congratulations!!! :D:D

Congrats! Since my area is also Restoration and 18th Century, this can't bode well for me.
Medievalmaniac Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Unfortunately, based on my most recent experience, only an Act of God will suffice in my case as well. BUT, as other people have said, it doesn't mean I can't be delighted for you as well!!
Shaky Premise Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Unfortunately, based on my most recent experience, only an Act of God will suffice in my case as well. BUT, as other people have said, it doesn't mean I can't be delighted for you as well!! I would have to second (or is it third?) that motion. I heard long ago that UVA had already accepted an applicant who focused on the Anglo-Saxon period, but I was holding out to the last. Now that another round of acceptances has seemingly gone out, I'm fairly certain the jig is up! Congrats to those who got in; I'm sure you'll prosper in Charlottesville!
Medievalmaniac Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 ooh! Ooh! Grain of hope! Grain of hope! On the UVA GSAS website: "Academic credits, undergraduate or graduate, earned more than 10 calendar years before the date of application for admission will ordinarily be considered no longer valid, and therefore will not form a basis for admission to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. At the discretion of the department in which you propose to work, such credits may be revalidated by examination. " So - they don't have to count my undergraduate work at UVA after all. Doesn't mean much, but it's something!! Especially when everything since was pretty good! kandeya 1
