Huh, that's interesting. Did any of the other schools that you declined ask where you were going instead and why? I declined an offer from UCI and they asked me a bunch of questions about why MICA was a better choice. I know its good information for them to know, but it made me feel really guilty, haha.

I attended SMFA undergrad for one semester and had a bad experience but I don't think its a bad school. I do have to say their grad studios are kind of laughable though.

That seems kinda childish of them if its true...

I'm looking for a place off campus too and it seems like the prices are reasonably fare. I mean, I'm coming from San Francisco so anything below $1800 is amazing to me! I've been talking to a current MFA student and she told me she found her place through Star Property Management. I guess they have YouTube videos of their rentals so if you need to find a place before you arrive in the city they are super useful.

I'm waiting to hear back about more funding but I've already decided to say yes to Rinehart either way and just make it work. Looks like we'll be getting work with each other!

Also I just talked to an alumni form MICA about loans and dept and he was super helpful. He gave me info on income-driven payment plans as well as Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. Ye yeah, I know what you mean. At this point it seems like dept is my only option. I'm trying to figure ways of being proactive about it, like looking to things that I would want to do when I get out of school, like working in public institutions ,after 10 years they forgive it.

I don't know, that's a tough one. I know that I'd want the best education possible, whatever that means to you. Personally, form the start of this whole process I told myself that I would not turn down a school that I loved because of money, nor would I go to a school I didn't fully love because it was free. But that's me.

People talk about portfolio's like they're fine wine. Put it in a dark cellar for a year or two and it will really taste great with a steak.

I have a feeling that even if they really like the work, there really isn't that much money they have to offer anyone. The thing that gets me though is there TA positions are only $800 a semester! That seems a little ridiculous.

Congratulations! I interviewed at UCI and am on the wait-list. For me, personally UCI being close to LA was a big draw, that's where its at on the west coast! Also it being a free program is something to consider, I'm not sure what UCSD funding is like though.
