  1. Today should be the day, dont you think?
  2. Did you call them? Were you able to get a decision on the phone?
  3. Thanks krahill! Ya, I talked to the people, and from what I could understand they were terribly sorry. They apologized profusely, when I told them how much distress this had caused me. They said this was an isolated incident, and they have never had anything happen like this before. For everyone else, they said they are still making decisions, and hope to have them ready by the end of the month (today!), or atleast by the end of this week.
  4. Thanks. I know, it sucks big time. I am now hoping they give it to me out of pity.
  5. I was informed on April 17th that I had gotten the fellowship. They received my paperwork today morning, and called me to tell me they did not have my name as one of the awardees. Apparently some IT glitch sent me an email, and had the congratulations page on the www. ndseg.asee.org/award website. So now, I have spent a shit load of money in anticipation of a better future, and have no fellowship (as of now). Very highly disappointed.
  6. Thanks bluebla. Your answer to (1) cleared some doubts in my mind. And ya, will probably talk to my chair about (2) and figure stuff out. Thanks again. Good luck to everyone else!
  7. Thanks smb888! Any inputs on the questions?
  8. I got the offer from NDSEG today, and I am definitely going to accept! I am in Statistics. I was curious about a couple of things, and was hoping somebody could help me out 1) Is it now necessary for me to continue research in what I proposed to do? How flexible are they about changing research (still working with the same advisor and at the same school) 2) Is it possible for me hold a teaching assisstanship at the department simultaneously. The NDSEG mention that they encourage students to pursue teaching resposibilities, but I am not sure how that is even possible for under 5k/year of their allotted money Thanks guys, and good look to everyone else!
  9. It seems to me that your primary concern is the 'math' in statistics that you would be needing. I am about to finish my masters from a good school in the east. Although I am a math major, I realized I didnt really use any Math beyond Calc II. Even the knowledge of LA required is minimal. Ofcourse it depends on the course structure and professors, but it seems to me its possible to go through the year without having to deal with gruesome math. Most of the time, there is a lot of emphasis given on how to approach data sets for analysis. In your case, it also might be that you are just getting anxious having been away from school for a while maybe. Sometimes it happens that right before an important event in life, we begin to question it. Change at the end of the day, is change and we need to get used to it. I say plunge in! go to school, the jobs will keep coming!
  10. A real analysis course is an important prerequisite for Statistics Phd.
  11. Michigan is going to send out all decisions by the end of the week. I am waiting too.
  12. I would definitely go for the stat program, especially since you are not closed to other areas of research. All the schools in the top 10 are almost at the same level, except maybe Berkeley and Stanford. And if you dont mind the city, stats is the way to go. Good luck.
  13. Hey Guys, I got through UMN phd stats, and am waiting for Purdue to reply. In case Purdue does accept me, I would have a very tricky decision to make. I have no specific research area as yet, but I am not tending towards Machine Learning (strong for Purdue). I would like a good balance between applied and theoretical. Personally, I am tending towards UMN. any suggestions. Thanks, P.S. I am half hoping i dont get through Purdue now!
  14. Hi All, I have received acceptance from UMN-Twincities for PhD Statistics, but the stipend they are offering me seems pretty low, or maybe I was expecting too much. That have offered me $15k. Does this seem reasonable?
