Okay, I'm in. I'll wager 400 additional awards, making a total of 1350. That would be about the halfway mark between last year and next year's projected award totals. Can it be tomorrow morning now?

Join the club. I am coming to terms with the idea that I can't know everything in my field, settling for a handful of things I want to research the most, and letting the others wait for a postdoc. I am an eternal optimist.

LOL ... we are way past 200 posts (185 pages times 15 posts per page is well over 2700 posts), we are working up to 200 pages.

yeah, there was that day, and it was also a Thursday, and the list came up on a Friday morning .... I am trying so hard not to get my hopes up for a tomorrow resolution to this!

Tracking patterns of domestication, or another research goal?

I am the only one from my department who applied, and there is one awardee from our school in the first list this year - hard science, where I'm a social scientist. Ours is a big public university also, and they offer us several informational and training sessions each year to learn how to apply for the fellowship, along with the opportunity to read past years' winning applications to see what it looks like. But in our department, nothing ever gets mentioned about it. They expect that we will pursue funding on our own, which is a little scary. If you don't know what's out there, how can you know to apply, especially in the first year of grad when things are a little intense anyway? I am hoping to make it to the first awardee for our department in a very long time. Maybe the note that th site is going down again is good news, although in the past it was simply routine maintenance.

I've had more dreams about this award in the last month than anything else. It's sad when you can almost taste it.

A year too early, that's what we are! Maybe they'll allow for a halfway between point for 2009, and award about 1200 total this year? Of course, I'd love to see the whole 1654 THIS year, because that would mean I've got more of a chance to get one! Good catch, meowser.

Okay, let's see ... is anyone doing research/interning this summer? What are you doing, where, and why?

Leakey is a good one. I'm sure you can make the argument about primate foraging - really, if archaeologists can argue that material artifacts have agency, then this is certainly within the range of a W_G! I like the idea.

I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. If they are reading it, then they realize we limboers are frustrated. That could be good.

The DPDF is a dissertation improvement grant. Like Will, I'm looking ahead :|
-
For those folks in the same boat and in the humanities/social sciences, have you checked out the SSRC DPDF? It looks good. What others are you applying for? (picking your brain since I'll be doing the same thing) I'm also looking at Wenner-Grenn, a grant not a fellowship, but hey, it's support.

Yeah I did, I was too busy waiting for my notice ...
-
Not a word, and I'm really tired of waiting.

I don't know, but I will certainly find out. Thanks for the idea! This is of course IF I get the GRFP, which, like a previous writer, I am becoming more convinced by the day won't happen.

Pity parties can be good things - I've indulged in one a few times over the past month - but I am hoping that we'll hear something by the end of this week. I was offered a TA line at school, and while it's really tempting to take it, I want to wait til I hear from the GRFP first. TA lines don't pay well, and frankly, there's not a lot of time left for my own research and writing. They need to hear from me by the end of this week, therefore, I really hope we hear by then.

The first list was posted on April 10, and a couple days later we heard the "two weeks" rallying cry. Today is the 7th of May. It's been almost a month. I'll get excited when they actually send me an email, whether it be HM or an award, and put an end to the waiting.

I came here to post the same thing, and yes, this is from today, since I too have been compulsively checking the page every day. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, and I think it's not a freight train.

I can only offer my own experience here, yours may vary. I received a scholarship, supposedly for tuition, from an outside source. I also had a TA position that paid a stipend and gave full tuition remission. The scholarship came in to the university, and since I owed nothing they disbursed it to me. It was nice to have money to live on! So please check with the source of the scholarship and see what the restrictions are. If it comes down to it, full tuition remission is a much better deal. My first year I took out loans for living expenses, so that is always an option for you as well.

And in an ugly little padded table, too. One of us needs to volunteer to redesign their site.

While I am thrilled to be on the whatever list, I never counted on getting an award. I figured when I submitted the application that it was a long shot, and so I've applied for other funding opps, including a TA line (which I have this year, but it's renewable annually). The bad part is that there are over a hundred grads in our department, and only 18 lines. We've always known to seek monies and opportunities outside, and since the economy is so tight right now, it's going to be a challenge. I think you might be right, that the number of additional awards, if any, is going to be smaller than our hopes for them. There are 2,000 of us in limbo ... Don't get me wrong, I am going to shout it from the hilltops if I get an award, but I'm not counting on it.

Be serious, you are that other guy. I didn't even get excited when I saw the post, because I knew it was fake. Nice try, no go play in someone else's sandbox.
