  1. I started this thread and was told to fill out this section...so far it has not helped with funding but I guess we shall see.
  2. I'm pulling for so many people on this site (including myself!)! Two Espressos, skybythelight, girl who wears glasses, Datatape, etc. Let's hope for good news all around from Maryland, Michigan, and Penn (and others, obviously !
  3. Maryland. Harvard will be the week after, I think.
  4. Thanks, guys! I'm getting my hopes up way too high. Does anyone else also have completely out of this world reach schools on their lists which are notifying at the end of the month? I'm counting them as assumed rejections already just because...I'm not really sure why I even thought applying was a good idea.
  5. Hey Pericles, sorry to hear about your unluck so far (it's a German word...it felt appropriate). Anyway if you don't mind me asking--you have a Michigan rejection in your signature. Is that American Studies or something different? I'll cross my fingers for you today (as I'm sure most of GC is doing for most people on this board today!).
  6. This is me. Chicago and NW were big blows. And I know some of you will say I don't belong in this thread, but I already have a master's and it would feel like a bit of a step back to start another (not to mention a waste of the money my mom generously spent on my first second degree).
  7. About talking to friends/feeling insecure. My friends and family think that all I want to hear is: of course you'll get in! Stop worrying! It's hard to explain that I'm not fishing for compliments...getting accepted to a humanities PhD is an impossible feat for many fine scholar-warriors.
  8. Throw some of that luck my way, too, please! My better half has been accepted (different dept.) with a sizable stipend. Would love to join him!
  9. Just emailed someone in the dept. Guessing she's on the adcomm judging by her wording ("we are not done yet").
  10. At least another week's wait for Penn. Just FYI.
  11. Nope. And Dartmouth is barely an Ivy (OOOH BURRRNNN).
  12. I definitely noticed class differences at my Ivy (and I lived in England for ten years....!).
  13. Don't do that to me, man. Also, UMD?
  14. As an Ivy alumna and with decent knowledge of other Ivies, I would say it varies greatly by school. Also--yes there is a certain sense of entitlement (admissions are hellishly competitive) but that's true of any good school, really.
  15. I was excited to see I'd scored in the 700s only to find out later it was the 70somethingth percentile. Which I know isn't bad, but still. Math people jackin' up the score (as opposed to upper 600s verbal which is in the 90th percentile).
  16. You're in at three amazing places. If you're actually planning on applying again...
  17. Which sub-field rankings do you use, patientagony?
  18. I'm with you on Maryland and Michigan. My boyfriend's already been accepted (totally diff. department) so the pressure's on.
  19. I forget, are you English or Comp. Lit or neither? And sorry to hear that. You seem pretty happy about OSU, though, so at least that's something!
  20. I mean that even when I'm in the US on a non-immigrant visa (or if I were to be there permanently in the future) I an not discriminated against visually as some people sadly are (e.g. various immigration "papers" laws in TX, AZ, etc.). I also dress and act like an American (as opposed to my people, the Europeans, for example). This post wasn't meant to offend. I just...blend in. It can be a blessing sometimes.
  21. I've been trying to figure out how being an international student factors in. I have my BA from a US school and my master's from a UK school...I figured I could add a little diversity (well, except for the fact that I look and sound American...but they don't know that). Maybe it will actually hurt me? Urgh. Too many possibilities.
  22. Apparently my one-year master's counts for very little. Urgh.
  23. Congrats! Any extra info you can share (after you get over the shock, obviously! )?
