  1. I hope for your sake it's not. Congrats!! P.S. I think they were interviewing for Literature, not English.
  2. Props to YA. My shelves are full of it because of two children's lit courses I took. I've always wondered about The Book Thief. Maybe I'll try it out! Almost finished with Beloved (second time starting it). Will I be kicked out of the English major club if I say I don't...like...it?
  3. Congrats on getting into my two top choices! I sincerely hope you end up at one of them and do something awesome
  4. I've been thinking about how it would look if I got an MA now...I mean to be fair my one-year MSc from Edinburgh only consisted of four courses and a 60-page dissertation...would it be a huge step back to start the MA over if that's the only acceptance I get?
  5. I can't handle Chicago today. I'm still holding out hope for NW, like a fool.
  6. Congrats!!! Any more light you can shed on the NW acceptance? What's your specialty? Any idea what the cohort size will be?
  7. Aaaand another Monday has rolled around.
  8. I'm not losing hope yet. NW isn't over until it's over, Two Espressos. And NYU has barely started notifying!
  9. Can anyone claim any of the NW acceptances? Do you guys think there are more coming or that's it? Still foolishly hopeful.
  10. Congrats! You're on a roll, friend!
  11. Oh of course, I didn't mean to imply there weren't any worthy candidates. But for some applicants it was certainly just an "oh I'll throw my name into the hat, you never know what could happen."
  12. I think this is why Harvard has such a high application fee--to weed out people just applying "because it's free." Serious offers only, that sort of thing.
  13. Curious: patientagony, why do you have Yale listed as an implicit rejection?
  14. I'm right there with you. Have they wait listed in the past?
  15. Northwestern was my dream. I really love their clusters program.
  16. Nope I don't study in Berlin. Have just been resident here for almost 10 years.
  17. I'm still hurtin' from the lack of phone call from Northwestern. Though it is almost 11pm here.
  18. Two Espressos let's hold hands and pray to Beckett.
  19. Seriously. I'm already expecting the worst.
  20. I have a first U.S. edition of one of my favorite books, Love in the Time of Cholera.
  21. Congrats to you, too! And thanks, Datatape, for your congratulations. Seriously, you have 11 left to go. The best is yet to come! Edit: I'm counting the waitlist as "left to go!"
  22. Thanks so much, guys! Loving the support. Question: how is DE English seen in the academic world? I know what its US News ranking is, but I'm curious to know how it's seen from a scholarly point of view.
