Right?! For some reason everyone I talk to about Windsor have something negative to say (even my brother who attended the university and my friend who is currently completing their Master's there). Perhaps it's a Western Ontario bias against the city as sad as it is. It always bothers me when I hear it being referred to as the "armpit" of Ontario/Canada. Great school by any standards!

Windsor was always my first choice so I am 90% sure I will stick with Windsor either way. However, if I do hear back from Laurier the decision might be a little bit more trickier. We shall see! Either way I am quite pleased

To anyone on Windsors wait list...
I spoke to the secretary today and she said roughly 200 applicants have been wait listed and there is no way they will exhaust the entire list. She said that last year, approximately half of their wait was contacted and the last offers and rejections were distributed at the end of june/first week of July.
How it works is that all 200 of the wait listed applicants have been ranked from 1 - 200 and with every declined offer they receive, they contact the next person on the wait list. There is no "re-assessment" or anything like that, nor is it random.
You can continue to look at your uwindsor application status online, which may be updated quicker than snail mail. Offers were given out about 1.5 weeks ago and they have 2 weeks to respond so I would check your status in biweekly intervals.

Hope this provides some clarity to anyone who is still waiting.

Awww.... Thanks for the compliment, Beth23.

This forum has been great for me, too. Since we're all in the same boat, we can all relate to how stressful the process can be. I can't wait until it's all over. Only one more week to go before I find out where I'll be going.

My boyfriend will be happy too, since I am always talking about something related to grad school lately. lol

For anyone waitlisted at Laurier... In 2 weeks the last of the $100 deposits are due from the first round of offers. Then they'll get a sense of how many spots have opened up so they can decide who and how many to take from the waitlist. Best of luck if you were waitlisted!

Just thought I'd mention... I called Windsor today and was told that they are just wrapping up the reviewing process and that first round decisions should be mailed out next week.

Yeah... I'm the Maid of Honor for my friend, so I am stressing about a future wedding that is in the works. At least you get to stop planning when you get bored with it.

Thanks! I was leaning that route too. Just needed a wise individual on this forum to let me know This place is the best.

Would your purpose for letting them know about the job be to punctuate the fact that you are a good fit for the program?  That is a tricky question and I totally understand why you would want to let them know.  However, they are making decisions based on what you have submitted by the deadline. Unfortunately I doubt that if you emailed them that it would be passed on to the review committee.  This is just because many students could potentially have new information to buff up their application and it would be unfair to other applicants to add to a file after the submission deadline.  But having said that, if you were to be waitlisted, I would definitely email them.  In addition to reiterating interest in the program, it would also show that you are 'out there' in the field.
    Btw, congrats on the job!

I recently received an e-mail from someone who is applying to their MSW program and I shared this with her. I thought I would share my story with you all, no matter what program you may be applying to and explain what I have learned from it...

I applied to York, UofT and Laurier and it was very stressful, I'm not going to lie. It is a very competitive program and I was very worried about not getting in. By end of April I had been rejected at Laurier and York and Waitlisted at UofT. I waited ALL summer to hear from UofT, but I stayed in constant communication with them. About once a month I would ask a question, send an updated resume, and let them know I was very interested in the program still. Around the end of August/beginning of September I realized I needed a back up plan. I applied to a local University for part time social work classes to hopefully try and fast track into the BSW program. I decided to give UofT one last e-mail to let them know that I was still interested and that if anyone decided to resign from the program that I would be available to move last minute. I am pretty sure that e-mail was my saving grace because about 2 days before the program started they had contacted me and one other girl and offered us a position in the program! It was a long wait...and I barely made it, but it happened!

The advice I will give you from what I have learned is:
    - Don't give up. Keep in constant contact with them, send an updated resume from a summer job or volunteer and make sure you stand out. Especially if you are wait listed.
    - Have a back up plan in mind. One of the hardest things about being rejected is wondering what will become of your future, and what you will do with your life. Have a back up plan in mind that you will be happy with and feel good about!
    - Try and distract yourself. Waiting is extremely hard, especially when it's the rest of your life. I know it's easier said than done, but you need to make sure you take your mind off of it now and then and just relax! Things will work out eventually if you want it badly enough. At the very worst, you take some classes, put in more volunteer hours and apply again next year!

Ironically your work experience was probably the strongest than you give yourself credit for.... although your grades are awesome as well..... working with vulnerable ill elderly persons is very much direct social work .... IMHO

Even though I know that U of T results won't be sent out until April 15th I am constantly checking my file online and my mailbox in the hopes that MAYBE some magical answer will be there. This is driving me insane.

PS honestly everyone in this forum should get in. If you are determined enough and care enough to constantly follow-up on a forum like this then you display the passion and drive that social workers should have. Each one of you will be a fantastic social worker. Please, if you do not get in this year (and that would be the institution's loss) do not give up. The world needs more individuals like you as social workers.
