  1. I'll offer my Syracuse perspective. I didn't attend Newhouse, but another college at Syracuse and ended up working in the field of advertising. I've plugged into the Newhouse alumni network throughout my career and can tell you that if NYC is where you want to be, Syracuse has the connections. I would say it's their primary market and you wouldn't need to worry. Just my two cents. Good luck!
  2. I'm still wrestling with my decision too. My goal is to work in study abroad and I'm debating between the following three programs: Vanderbilt (Higher Ed Admin) - Really liked the school, people and faculty. Offered a GA position that makes it affordable. Just concerned that it doesn't expose me to a lot of study abroad specific issues and that Nashville doens't have as many opportunities/connections as the schools in DC. George Washington (Higher Ed Admin) - Again, liked the school and that the International Ed program offers several courses that are directly related to study abroad program management. Did not receive any financial aid, so this is looking extremely expensive. Being located in DC seems like a huge plus for making connections in my field though, but again this has a much higher cost of living compared to Nashville. American (International Training & Education) - Very different from the other two schools, but the focus is all about what I'm interested in. Also didn't receive any money from them. I'm open to any thoughts others might have! Hard to believe that decision day is less than three weeks away!
  3. I'm in the same boat. Haven't heard anything yet. Trying to stay positive! Congrats to those who have received scholarships!
  4. Thanks merrysoprano. I'm glad that you found the event helpful. There are a lot of things I like about the program for what I'm interested in. Hopefully someone gets back to me so I'm able to meet with a few people when I visit in a couple of weeks. At the event did they give a presentation about scholarships, graduate assistantships and general financial aid?
  5. I was just wondering if there were any people who attended the Admitted Student Day this past weekend at George Washington. I wasn't able to go, but am planning on visiting the school later this month. Was it informative and any positive or negative takeaways from it? I've been admitted to the Higher Education program so I'm also trying to land one of the fellowships as well. Overall I have had a really hard time communicating with the school. Maybe it's just because the other schools I've been talking with are really on top of their game, but with GW I'm feeling a little in the dark on everything. I know they are busy at this time of year, but I never get a response from emails or calls. Anyone else had a similar experience or am I I just the lucky one!?
  6. Congrats on getting a 2/3 scholarship so early! I was accepted to the M. Ed. Higher Ed. Admin program so maybe each group does it a little differently...I hope at least, because there's no way I could swing Vanderbilt if I don't get any sort of aid!
  7. I was also at the visit day last week and had a good experience! I thought the faculty I got to speak with and all the other students were friendly and very approachable. Going in I don't think Vanderbily was my top choice, but I left feeling really good about it. Unfortunately my big worry is the financial side of things. It sounds like there are a lot of opportunities for GA positions, but that they vary in their levels of funding. When they said we'd have to make a decision before all that gets figured out it scared me a bit. They said that they send out letters about scholarships in early March. So I'm just going to have to sit tight and see what happens there. When people start hearing about scholarships would they mind posting here? I think this part is worse than waiting on acceptances!
  8. Hi Nicolemae, I got that email this morning too, even though I got my rejection letter in the mail yesterday. I'm hoping you get better news than I did!
  9. Kind of funny, but of course what did I get in the mail when I got home? My rejection letter! I kind of laughed. Good thing it wasn't one of my top picks. Strange how even a rejection feels good sometimes since it takes the anxiety of not knowing out of the picture.
  10. Thanks for the info emg28!
  11. I did and haven't heard anything either. I was wondering the same thing, because I haven't seen any results posted. I did their financial aid webinar a couple of weeks ago and they said that all decisions would be sent out via mail and that it would happen at the beginning of February. I know the interview day for assistantship positions is next week so I'm not feeling too optimistic at this point.
  12. Congrats to everyone that has been getting good news lately! Is anyone else struggling with deciding on which visit days to attend? Two of my top schools have them on the same day so I'm trying to see which one would make the most sense to go to and which one I'd be okay visiting on my own.
  13. Congrats Loseric! Yes, I initially thought it was going to be two full days. I'm still going since it's one of my top schools and I'd like to meet the faculty and get a better feeling for the program. Congrats to you too Lauren00620. See you in Nashville!
  14. Yesterday I received my invite to the visit day next month at Vanderbilt! It is one of my top schools and the first news I've heard from any program so I'm definitely excited. Anyone else planning on going? I'm going for the MA in Higher Ed Admin.
  15. I'm in the same situation. Just applying for a M.A. in Higher Education and trying to prepare for possible upcoming visits. I cast a fairly wide net in terms of programs that I applied to. Just didn't want to limit myself at the start, since getting accepted, merit scholarships and available assistantships will also factor into my decision. Would love to take the months of February and March off from work to attend everything, but I know that's not realistic! I'll just have to prioritize once I start hearing back from schools.
