Helmut Ziefle's "Modern Theological German" is indispensable for anyone in your situation, you'll actually be interested in studying.

I am considering ministry, but academia is still the prime goal. Part of what I came up with the elective thing for PTS was that they have a three week January term that is optional, but is included in tuition, which would open up 3 more spaces for electives/languages (one January class a year for three years). Plus, PTS requires 12 Church History credits as opposed to 6 at BC, since Historical Theology is my field I was implicitly including that in the "elective" camp. It may sound like I'm in the tank for PTS but I'm not, just arguing devil's advocate to come to a reasonable conclusion.

I mostly agree with what both of you have said; however, part of my worry is that at PTS it seems that I will be able to take more electivess than at BC, whose program seems to be eaten up by a lot of required classes (i.e. Biblical Studies, Moral Theology). Further, it looks like PTS would give me more opportunities for languages due to the extra year. Thoughts?

Well, a few people are posting these so I figured I'd throw mine in, you know the deal. Unless Yale comes at me with more money I'm down to Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div) and Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (M.T.S). I'm interested in Historical Theology, specifically Medieval Theology and how it has been appropriated/interpreted by later theologians (i.e. Post-Modern Theologians as well as Medieval themes that carry over into the Reformation). I want to go on to Doctoral work but am open to exploring the possibility of ministry. I have full tuition at both schools and may get an assistantship at BC. Any input is much appreciated.

I am, I haven't really looked at it though.

I sent an email after my acceptance asking for more and the person said that they don't anticipate being able to since they've overextended themselves with aid. -
Right here! Historical Theology as well, I'm interested in the Medieval Period and am currently VERY interested in how Medieval Theology is appropriated by contemporary/post-modern theologians.

Call em up! My app was "lost" for a month, I had to repeatedly call them/get shuffled around to everyone at BC to correct it; and then there was another technical issue with my app. Point is, they're not infallible, see if there's anything they can do

Well with YDS and the other schools it would be the difference between paying $13,500 in tuition or paying $0 in tuition. Considering my finances its an easy decision. -
Harvard and Yale Divinity, Fall 2013 Applications
Therewillbeluke replied to unacclimated's topic in Religion
Well right now I'm going between PTS, BC, and to a lesser extent SLU. I'm currently visiting schools, I'll have a good picture of where I'll be after that. Where do you think you'll end up? -
Harvard and Yale Divinity, Fall 2013 Applications
Therewillbeluke replied to unacclimated's topic in Religion
First congrats! The background check seems to be a requirement for all PC(USA) seminaries; for instance when you get it you have to select between PTS, Columbia Seminary, Union Presbyterian, etc. So I assume its just a denominational thing, not a PTS specific thing. -

Accepted to YDS today as well. Visited PTS today and loved it, down to PTS and BC pretty much (not really gonna bother with ND or GTU) I got the same deal and sent an email, pretty straighforward "No" -

Accepted to Fordham, no funding. Turning it down. -
I'd say sub out Spanish for German if you need to do a second one since those are the two basic modern languages that departments want. Since, however, American Religious History is your subfield Spanish may be useful depending on your interests. If thats the case then go for Spanish.

Part of me wishes I'd applied for the comprehensive due to all this waiting. No, not yet. I think that they'll release decisions on the 15th exactly, same with everyone who hasn't heard from YDS. -
Just out of curiosity, what would you all say in regards to the academics as the various Episcopal seminaries?

I mean it couldn't hurt. -
On the point of learning languages I'll say this much: the more languages you attempt, the easier it will become. In my case I took a year of German and was okay at it, however, now I'm in Latin and am doing pretty well. Once you attempt one language you see things about how languages operate which makes learning subsequent languages easier in my opinion.

I would love to, but it would be pretty impossible with the funding they offered me.

I got mine at 5:00 on the dot. Sit back, breath, remember that you haven't been rejected (even if you may feel that way), and know that likely all this week they'll be sending out decisions. You made it to the interview, and you have stellar GPA scores amongst other assets.
