Received a call from a POI at U of Maryland tonight notifying me that I had been accepted!
 
Also, congrats to everyone on all of the recent acceptances!

Accepted to UT-Austin!  I am looking forward to the day I quit my job...as it is now a certainty!  

Just to clarify - I am sorry for this standing-out as a post directed at you (since it was in your thread) but it was more a general thought.  I think it is good to be clear about the fact that adcoms/whoever reads these post and that one should use common sense but many of these faculty/senior posts had such a feel of "kids - be nice or you'll never get your treat".
 
Thanks for not taking my post in the wrong way   I am not always a vision of clarity.

The Davis acceptance is posted by me. I got a very brief letter from the committee chair, saying that the formal letter will be posted in the application system by next week, and the funding letter will be sent in 1 or 2 weeks, and she would like to set up a skype call with me about any further questions. It seems to be an individual mail. 
 
I thought there would be several more posts about Davis by today, but maybe they just reviewed the international students first, so please don't get too nervous~

Just to clarify, I personally stayed away from this forum while I was on adcomm. When I was a graduate recruitment member, we often used these forums to determine where students might have other offers from (listing the schools you were accepted to at the bottom) which isn't always information recruits are forthcoming with on their weekend. Most schools (the 5-6 I have experience with) do look at these boards to gain more information. Right or wrong, I just feel that I should publicize that knowledge to anyone who thinks they are remaining semi-anonymous. It's not so much about judging as it is about gaining information. I hope that clarifies what I meant here.
 
 

Darth, I've seen your posts here for a while (since before my service on the adcomm) and I'm sorry that happened. That's very atypical and I hope you know that very few people would go to those lengths to identify someone. I'm talking more about people who have a handle like MikeSmith and then are surprised that people can figure out who they are.

Anyway, glad to be back everyone!

Netiquette works both ways in most cases.  Secretly reading people's discussions and chitchatting about it in the dark is considered bad form in most circumstances and should be frowned upon.  It is very power games to announce yourself as a person in authority/power and then point out what other people should think of/limit.
 
I understand that alot of these posts do arrive within the context of things going in the wrong direction on this forum but it still feels rather weird that it hints that we should beware of "our actions" since we are judged on them by our seniors..

Not my field but saw the acceptance on the result page and figured I would tip my hat to the 3rd timer getting in! I'd paypal the money for a celebratory drink but I dont condone drinking!

I have been in a terrible funk ever since I didn't get an email or phone call about the "admissions process" from one of the universities I applied to (knowing that others had gotten such a call or email, all spread out over about a month's time).

Congrats! This is good news for those of us who applied to UNC as it shows that the adcomm is probably done reviewing applications. From what I understand about the UNC process is that senior faculty individually contact accepted applicants which means that notification dates will likely be very sporadic. Best of luck to all who applied.

So congrats are in order for my partner who just got an acceptance from UNC. If you thought acceptance emails didn't come on the weekend you would be mistaken. Congrats my love! I'm super proud of you!!!!!! (and jealous at the same time! haha) 

Hi all - Fred Block is NOT a Marxian, he's Polanyian, which is a different animal.
 
He was pretty big in economic sociology when it was first revived in the 80's, and is currently very well-respected in the economic sociology subfield. Note that he was the editor of a special edition of Politics & Society on using Viviana Zelizer's notion of "relational work" as a microfoundation for economic sociology in general.
 
When Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson had a review symposium in Politics & Society on their book "Winner-Take-All Politics," Fred Block, along with Margaret Somers at Michigan, was one of the people invited to respond.
 
Ask anyone in economic sociology section, and they all know who he is and often have working relationships with him.
 
Sure, Politics & Society and Socio-Economic Review are not "top-rated" journals if your idea of "top" is only ASR and AJS, but they're top-notch in economic sociology and those 2 journals are probably the top journals for economic sociologists.
 
Fred Block was also recently published in Studies in Comparative International Development, which is probably the leading sociological journal for the sociology of economic/Third World development.
 
Michigan Sociology's own Greta Krippner used Fred Block's work, as well as that of James O'Connor and Daniel Bell, in her recent book "Capitalizing on Crisis," published by Harvard Press, and she acknowledges her personal and intellectual debts to Fred Block in the acknowledgements section of said book.
