  1. I was accepted into the Rhetoric and Public Culture program at Northwestern!!! They made only 5 offers this year. So excited! Will most likely attend in the fall!

    Good luck everyone!

Congratulations Tazo11 :-) Very happy for you!

By the way! If you've applied to Maryland and haven't heard a response - email the coordinator and you may hear some news!

Just Columbia to hear from now (expecting a rejection)...how about you all?

  2. Similar here. The graduate secretary replied: "Your application was reviewed!!" With two exclamation marks. Does it mean anything?

This sounds like she's screwing with your mind.

  3. I'm waiting for a call too (from the dream school). A blocked number called me today...it was an insurance company telling me "we are aware you had an accident in the last six months". I haven't. I swore.

If I see an American phone number come up, I'm likely to scream my office down.

  4. @sophiak119: Hey! I would certainly advise you speak to somone you can trust - either a professional or a friend (or both). Getting into grad school is only the beginning. It seems like when the workload starts to pile on...you may need some extra support to guide  you through your program - so start speaking to someone now. There is no shame in it. Secondly, you cannot allow yourself to believe that schools rejecting your application, automatically means that they are rejecting you as a person. There are so many factors involved - direction of the dept, interest match, funding, etc. If you do unfortunately get rejected by all the places you've applied to, talk to these departments and find out why. Then you can prepare yourself for the next application cycle accordingly - if that's what you want. As someone said earlier - you may need to assess why you want to go to grad school in the first place, and why you feel like it's all or nothing. A grad program does not validate or define you...and there really is more to life than academia.

Please feel free to keep reaching out to gradcafers if you need to - but honestly, you need to get some extra support for this season.

Sending you warm wishes from London.

  5. I have to second everything that has been said before Eager. You have been a source of inspiration, encouragement and light to us all. To think - in years to come, when we cast our minds back to this process and this forum - you will probably still remembered by many of us because of the way you have conducted yourself and comforted others. Thank you for giving us smiles, even through your own tears. I am assured that whatever path you are been taken to, is far greater than the one you are imagining for yourself. Keep being you and keep being eager - you are a blessing to others even through your anonymity.

    Sending love from London!

  6. also applied Cornell...heard nothing...even an interview..guess I will receive the same later

so good to see that you get accepted from Rutgers...I was rejected....btw what is your research interest?

Thanks! So sorry to hear about your rejection from Rutgers. I'm yet to hear about funding...so it's difficult to celebrate till I do!

I knew I was rejected from Cornell as soon as I didn't receive an interview....so no surprises there.

Research Interests: Social media & political change within ethnic minority communities; Intercultural communication within a new media context

  7. "You're so smart, I think you'll get in everywhere you applied and have to CHOOSE where you are going.  They might even call and beg you to come!"

    ...

SMH!!!!  I will be very lucky to even get one acceptance letter based on what I have learned about the competitive nature of my program. Never mind that "I'm smart" doesn't work on these applications... because EVERYONE is...

Honestly. I've heard this several times. Clearly no one understands.
