citychild, did they say how we would get responses (email or our online status)?
-
Congrats! Do you mind sharing how they informed you? I still have a few more weeks I think, I submitted mine on Dec 19th but it wasn't processed till after the new year.

For anyone applying to UCLA, the application instructions say to submit the Personal Statement document via the "Statement of Purpose" section which is just a plain text box. I can't seem to just copy my word document into the text box though...so will I have to re type my statement into the text box or is there another way for me to just copy it into the space?

Any info on the University of Denver's MSW Program?

Hello, For those who were accepted to DU, how soon did you find out after submitting your application? Just curious since they do admissions on a rolling basis. -
SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013
paige_elizabeth10 replied to Kuchan's topic in Social Workers Forum
Residency questionnaire, is that for California applicants only? I'm tired of getting the "your application is incomplete" emails as well, its pretty anxiety inducing. I have heard/read similar things as well, so I am definitely not getting my hopes up. I just really love San Francisco so that's the main reason I applied... Yes I did apply to UW, that is my number one choice! I applied to the early action deadline because I really want to up my chances of getting in. Seattle is a gorgeous city, I'm so lucky to have grown up in such a beautiful area. The UW campus is pretty awesome as well. I didn't go there for undergrad (I went to a private school in Oregon) but I have a lot of friends who go to UW and I've only heard great things. If you get a chance, you should definitely make your way to the Puget Sound area--even if you don't go to UW, Seattle is just a great place to be anyway -
SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013

Oh geez, that is a mess, I'm sorry to hear you also had troubles (but I'm glad I'm not alone!). Its just really frustrating because I know that my chances are already pretty slim (they only accept around 17 percent of applicants??) so I don't want to have anything working against me. Anyway, thank you again for prompting me to do that, I've been working on other apps and never really took the time to check my SFSU status, so I never even saw that I was missing transcripts. -
SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013
paige_elizabeth10 replied to Kuchan's topic in Social Workers Forum
Thanks, I just called graduate studies and they said that they don't really have a deadline for transcripts, but that the Social Work program is highly competitive and very strict and won't start reviewing my application until everything is in by the 15th...which has clearly passed. So I called the SW department and no one picked up (they are super hard to get a hold of, I have called them several times before and haven't had a whole lot of luck). Maybe this is my frustration speaking, but I have been incredibly underwhelmed by the application process at SFSU. The directions for applying are vague, some of the documents they use are outdated (not a big thing, but it kind of annoyed me), I had to mail everything in which is a little stressful, and it is ridiculously hard to get a hold of someone in the department to get questions answered. I don't know, for such a competitive program, they don't seem to be too effective/organized. Just spoke with the SW department, they said as long as I submitted transcripts to the SW department, they don't care that I haven't gotten them to the graduate studies department. Phew! I'm still kind of peeved, but I definitely feel better. -
SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013

Wow, that's really annoying. Thank you for the prompt, I just checked the To Do list and it says I have until 7/17/2013 to mail in everything. Let's hope they accept it! -
cschapman, Congrats on being enrolled into the MSW program at CSU Northridge! It sounds like a great program, I definitely like the strengths based perspective. I decided to not apply to any of the CSU schools but if I don't get in anywhere this time around, I will definitely consider those the next time I apply. Thanks for your support, its almost over!!

Submitted UW on Dec 2 and just submitted Berkeley today (here's to my slim chances of getting in!!! ) I'm hoping to submit SFSU tomorrow or Tuesday, I'm cutting it close with that one with regards to the deadline...Oh well. I'm so tired of filling out apps, anyone with me??

SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013
paige_elizabeth10 replied to Kuchan's topic in Social Workers Forum
I saw that as well. I have my verification letters from employers but I still have to fill out the experience part of the application. I guess I'll just have to make sure that I mention my academic stuff in my statements! Just called them--they only require the verification letters. -

Is anyone sending in a resume along with their application? The instructions do not indicate anything about a resume, but that seems a little odd to me. -
SFSU MSW Application for Fall 2013

I received an email from the SFSU admissions department a few days after I submitted my CSU Mentor application. The email included my Student ID number and I was given a link that would allow me to check my application status. They have links on the SFSU MSW website to all of the documents that you need to complete your application, so if you haven't seen those just visit the website. -
You don't sound like you are a slacker, as evidenced by your concern and your academic achievement thus far. Heck, I have a C on my transcript (microeconomics freshman year = no bueno), a W, and *gasp* I've even pass/failed a class. Don't dismiss your other accomplishments for the sake of that tiny W. You dropped that class with the intentions of maintaining your good GPA (which you worked hard for and earned). Besides, don't most schools ask for the classes you plan on taking as well? Sounds like you won't be slacking off next semester either.

I have a W on my transcript because I had to withdraw from an American Ethnic Studies class my Sophomore year. I had the exact same concerns as you, but my advisor told me that schools really won't think twice about it. It sounds like you have a lot of great things going for you, so I wouldn't worry too much about it The only thing that I can see the schools getting fussy about is if the dropped class is in your major. But even then, I don't think its a big deal.

bradley610 and briefinterviews, thank you both for your responses. I am meeting with my thesis advisor/research supervisor this week to talk about my options--hopefully that will subside some of my confusion. And congrats to briefinterviews for your admission into UCB!!

Well. I took the GRE this morning and tanked. I wasn't expecting to do stellar, but I definitely expected to do better than what I did because I spent a lot of time studying (I think I got 152 math/153 verbal?? I can't remember because I was so disappointed ) Anyway, I have been planning on applying to UCLA and Berkeley but now I'm almost convinced that there is no way I could get in. I know that it is frowned upon to post stats and ask "what are my chances??" but I just don't know what to do. Berkeley is my dream school and UCLA is high up there as well. I have a GPA of 3.71 (advanced GPA is 3.86) and I'm writing an honors thesis for the psychology department at my university I also work as an on call residential youth counselor for a shelter program (341 hours to date) and just got hired at another shelter doing the same thing. I have also participated in two service learning trips through my university and was a facilitator for one of them (around 200 hours total). Ugh, I just don't know what to do. How are the Cal State schools? Perhaps I should look more into those..

Well, the regular action deadline for UW is Jan 2, so I think submitting that one in early Dec would be fine. And the priority view deadline for USC is Jan 15, so I think anytime in Dec would be ok as well. But, I've never done this before, so what do I know!

bbergstrom, you finished your applications so early! Is this normal/recommended? I thought that submitting mine only a few weeks early would be ok, but I have just now started my personal statements so I'm kind of worried!
