Hey there, so sorry to hear that you didn't get into UW. I'm sure that doesn't feel good. To be honest, I'm still surprised that I got in, I was fully expecting to be waitlisted or receive a rejection email. Compared to a lot of people on the board, I don't have an exceptional amount of SW experience. I work part-time at a youth emergency shelter and have participated in two service learning programs through my University--one of which I was a leader for. What I feel really helped me get in was my research experience. I have worked under two professors and have presented posters at an international conference. I'm currently doing research right now as part of my honor's thesis and I made sure to mention how my experience as a research assistant will help me be effective in clinical and applied settings. Also, I think my letters of recommendation really helped me. One was from my thesis advisor, one was from my supervisor at the shelter (and she has an MSW from UW), and one was from the Associate Dean of the University I'm at. I also spent a ridiculous amount of time working on my statements (around 4 months), so whatever I was lacking in experience I tried to make up for in an awesome essay. Lastly, my cum GPA is a 3.7 but my advanced is a 3.84, so a little higher than last year's cohort.

Congrats on your decision to attend UCONN, bbergstrom

Sorry to hear about your waitlist situation, Mindy. Where are you planning to attend?

I set up a tour/meeting with the Director of Admissions (Juanita) for Friday the 29th. I can't make the welcome days in the beginning of April so I thought I would come in and ask some questions while I'm on break. I'm kind of nervous? I don't know why. Does anyone have any questions that they would like to have answered about UW? I'd be happy to ask them.

Congrats, dida!! I was just accepted to UCLA

bbergstrom, I am very surprised that you didn't get into UW. From what you have posted, you seem to have a lot of social work related experience and any program would be lucky to have you. But like Mindy said, you have gotten into some great schools, so I hope you're not too bummed out.

I submitted my app on Jan 11 and I received my acceptance on March 15th. Hopefully you will hear back this week! I never called to inquire about my status, but I would say that your second faculty review is a good thing?

Good luck, Mindy
-
Haha not a problem. And thank you! Have you decided where you will be attending?

April 15th!

Accepted my offer of admission to UW today

Yeah, MindyMSW actually told me about uloop I'm in school at Willamette University in Salem, OR--about 4 hours away from Redmond, WA which is where I'm from and, conveniently, is only 20 minutes East of Seattle So I have grown up around Seattle but have never considered living in the city until now!
-
Awesome! I've been looking on craigslist/uloop to find some affordable places-- Seattle is pricey but I think I have found some options in NE Seattle. When I come back to WA for spring break I'm gonna spend a lot of time scoping out the city. And yeah I am going to try to make it to those info sessions! I am also hoping to meet with some folks at the SW building over spring break and get some tips on housing.

Wow, that might work. I will PM you once I get closer to graduating/figure out some financial things

Hey everyone, As acceptances begin rolling in and folks are starting to solidify their plans for next fall, I figured I would make a thread where we can post about finding housing/roommates. Or we can talk about the pains of finding housing in general I will be attending UW in the fall and am currently looking at apartments/houses in the Seattle area. That said, I need some roommates and I would love to live with some fellow MSWers! Post here or PM me if you are interested

Interesting. I feel like a lot of folks received an email stating that admission decisions would be sent out the week of March 18-22?
-
Congrats!! I got another email as well...though it appears to be the exact same email I received on Friday except this time they posted a link for me to decline or accept my offer. Sounds like they are sending out another round of notifications--good luck to those who are waiting!
-
Peachy, I applied to PSU as well and will not be accepting the offer if I'm admitted either. Should I withdraw my apps for the schools I know I definitely won't be attending? Or is it too late since they have probably already begun to review them? MSdubbs, I am right there with you on financial aid and all of that. Hopefully we will get some emails later this week?

I'm so anxious to get some follow up emails from UW. I'd like to get started on the background check/look around on MyGradProgram but I don't have a code/UW net ID Anyone else seriously considering UW? Congrats to everyone who is in so far and good luck to everyone waiting.

Shoot, the late rec might have bumped you (I'm just guessing, I don't know for sure) but I feel like you should have at least gotten an email. I would call them on Monday and see what's up.

Did you apply for early decision?
