Don't worry about it, as long as your application matches your transcript.

Your GRE quantitative is low. Conversely, your GRE Verbal is higher than most candidates who get accepted to top engineering programs. If Berkeley uses a combination of your GRE and your GPA (without weighing the Verbal and the Quantitative portions differently), I think you *should* be fine for the initial cutoff. Usually, for top programs like Berkeley, GRE scores cannot really help you much but they can hurt you if they are not at par with the rest of the strong candidates. Anyways, can you elaborate on your research experience? Research and your LOR writers' descriptions of your research ability probably comprise the most important part of your application. It also depends on how well you can tie in your interests with your abilities. P.S. If you don't mind divulging this, which group are you looking to join at Berkeley? I am applying to Stanford and in my SOP, I am mentioning 4 professors that I am very interested in working with.Three of these are within the department I am applying to, whereas one happens to be outside of it. However, due to the inter-disciplinarity of my research interests, their work falls within the realm of what I would like to do. Do you think it is a bad idea to mention professors outside of the department you are applying to? I don't want them to think: "If he wants to work with Prof. ___, why doesn't he just apply to ____ department?" Thank you for your help!

I have talked to several graduate students who received the GRFP and a lot of them did what you are planning on to do. I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with stating that you intend on continuing your research with Dr. xxx, as long as you justify it.
