  1. Really? I hope that is true. I emailed an professor to ask, but I have yet to hear anything.
  2. Hey guys, I was admitted to OSU but I haven't heard anything about TAships or any other sort of funding. Do you know how common it is for programs to admit students and not fund them? I would think at OSU it would not be so common, but I'm not sure. Thanks
  3. Shit. Now i'm super worried. I didn't even get an e-mail, just an update on my appstatus that said I was admitted. Getting in without funding might as well be a rejection.
  4. I was not nominated, but I was not expecting to since my GPA is a 3.56, and so is below the 3.6 cutoff. Have you heard anything about other financial support? On my app center there is no information about funding.
  5. They wouldn't nominate you if you weren't accepted. Check your appstatus.osu.edu page. I'm sure it says you're in. Perhaps I will see you next fall at OSU! I'm still waiting to hear about funding though.
  6. Thank you so much. It is the highest ranked program I applied too (and my current school) and I am very excited and feel very privileged to have been offered an admittance. I just hope I get funding. OSU is such a big and well-funded school that I would be very surprised to not receive funding, especially since I received an admittance this early. Now I am just waiting to hear from the others so that I can make a choice. I can certainly rest much easier now that I've been accepted though! In fact, I have a paper due tomorrow that I am having an incredibly hard time working on.
  7. One of my top picks. This is fantastic. Really a great feeling of relief. No word on funding yet though. I'm scared I might not get any!
  8. Congratulations. Mine still says 'in review' on the app status site.
  9. There's an OSU admittance up on the survey now. I still haven't heard anything
  10. They all do. They are pretty much homogenous goods in my eyes. The only real difference is their rank according to U.S. News: University of Iowa: 33, Michigan state: 44, UConn:40, Virginia Tech: 48, U Mass: Unranked
  11. I haven't really been able to find a reliable ranking. The one I used for my selections was this: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/statistics-rankings The issue with Columbia and Yale is that they are Ivy Leagues, and top applicants will apply to them just because they are Ivies, despite the fact they are in the low 30's. Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin are almost top 10 (top 15) Purdue is 22 Rutgers is 37. I think you have a very top heavy selection of schools. To put it into perspective for you, our profiles are fairly similar but the highest ranked school I applied to was 27, while most of them were in the 30-40's, and I'm worried I'm not going to get an admit from anywhere (with funding). But perhaps I'm just a pessimist. Being female doesn't help much. A lot of international applicants end up being female, so there is no sort of "preference" given to female applicants, especially at large schools.
  12. No. I have considered other factors. Basically, I am essentially equally interested in all 5 schools, so I just want to choose the three that I have the best chance of admission. Are you suggesting those 3 based on your preferences, or based on my chances of getting in?
  13. I don't have the money for all 5 myself (or even 2). My parents won't pay for me to apply to more than 8, either. In their eyes, if I apply to 8 and don't get into any, applying to 2 more would be a waste, which I disagree with, but, there is nothing more I can do. I've applied to 5 so far, so now I have 3 more to choose.
  14. Hey guys, I'm at a crossroads here trying to figure out which last 3 schools to apply to for Stats PhD I'm between: Virginia Tech, U Conn, U Mass, University of Iowa, Michigan State. I like all the places and their faculty, so I'm really just trying to pick based on which 3 I might have the best shot at. Right now I'm thinking Virginia Tech, U Conn, and U Mass. My quick stats: OSU undergrad, Economics major, Math minor GPA: 3.56 GRE: 163V, 159Q, 5.0 AW Undergrad Economics research experience for 1 year Math classes: Lin Alg, Diffy q, Real Analysis, Probability, Numerical Analysis Stats: A few regular stats classes, Econometrics Rec letters: 1 from research prof, 1 from stats prof, 1 from econometrics prof Thanks
  15. I think you have a good profile, especially with an undergrad from Berkeley and research experience. However, given what I've seen on the site, I do not think you have enough for admission into a lot of the big name programs you applied to (pretty much all of them except for Rutgers, maybe Purdue). This should not be taken as gospel though, and I would wait to see what others say. I think you should count on getting into Rutgers. I applied there with a 3.56 GPA from Ohio State, Economics Research experience, and average math grades (A's in Lin Alg and Diffy Q, but I got a C+ in Real Analysis 1, and a B- in probability. Professor issues in Real analysis, and life issues in probability, but c'est la vie.) and I think I am likely to get an admit from Rutgers, given what I've seen. I think you should have applied to a lot of 15-30 schools, and maybe 1 or 2 top-tens, and 1 or 2 30+ schools for safeties.
  16. I applied to: Northwestern, OSU, UIUC, Rutgers, U Virginia, Virginia Tech, U Connecticut, U Mass, Michigan State I got a B+ in Multivariable calculus, but I got a C+ in Real Analysis 1 (with a professor that has written articles on how lazy students are. It was a great experience). I'm in Real Analysis 2 with a great professor, but that is meaningless now of course. I am an OSU undergrad and so 1 of my LORs is from a very well liked (although not necessarily research prestigious professor) and another is from a very well known Econ professor that does Econometrics. Hopefully they work in my favor. In any case, your words are encouraging, and offer me some comfort, so thank you for that!
  17. I'm fairly certain I won't get into OSU. I've seen the stats of people applying there, and they seem to blow mine out of the water. I'm really just anxious for an acceptance from somewhere. I am very stressed and worried that I will not get in anywhere. I have a 3.5+ GPA, research experience (economics), teaching experience, etc. but my grades in some of my math classes have not been stellar (Only 2 A's diffy q, and lin alg)
  18. It says incomplete? Mine says the status is "In review"
  19. Looks like OSU made some admits, has anyone heard anything? It says my app is still under review.
  20. They told me that only some early admissions decisions had been made and that the rest will be made at the end of February/Early March. Damn.
  21. I sent them a message on my application center, hopefully they have good news.
  22. Cw, should I be worried that some people have gotten admits from northwestern but I have yet to hear anything?
