The Watertown to Newton commute during rush hour should be fairly irritating due to this one really awful set of interchanges at the Mass Pike. That said, there are ways to get around it (and it's not IMPOSSIBLE, just irritating), so I would look into back routes for rush hour. At off-peak times it's extremely easy. Depending on where you are in Watertown, I'd expect a 15-20 minute drive.

Just wanted to mention how jealous I am. I worked with Deanna Joseph when she was at UMass and she is INCREDIBLE. Best conductor I've ever had, by far. I can't imagine anyone better to learn from. She's also really nice!

Just got a rejection email (masters program). Good luck everyone!

Switching Geertz replied to Therewillbeluke's topic in Religion
Congrats, Matthew! I haven't received an email from Chicago nor has my application status on the website changed, but at the bottom of the page, a "reply to offer of admission" link has appeared. Anyone else have that? I wonder if it means what I think it means... -

There's a UNC bloodbath (of which I, unfortunately, am a part) going on right now in the results search. Congratulations to those who were accepted and good luck on the rest of your apps, everyone!

That's surprisingly early. Was the deadline Jan. 15th? It's not on the website anymore. -
Has anyone heard anything from UNC since the acceptances 10 days ago?

screwed up, didn't email any profs--is it worth bothering now?

I also chose not to contact POIs for my masters applications, mostly because it only occurred to me a week before my deadlines and I didn't want to seem unorganized. I regret not taking advantage of the opportunity to make a more personal connection, so I hope it won't make too much of a difference. I also couldn't think of a single thing worth asking any of them about. -

Looks like there was another acceptance to UNC on Friday but only posted today on the results list.

2013-2014 M.A./M.T.S/M.Div Application chitchat
Switching Geertz replied to Therewillbeluke's topic in Religion
I've applied to Harvard Divinity, Chicago Divinity, UNC, BU, and Syracuse for Islamic Studies. I'm primarily interested in medieval Sufism and folk traditions. -
I'm applying to master's programs in religion. One of my recommenders (my advisor) just emailed me to tell me he submitted his letters and had recommended me as a PhD candidate. There had been an ongoing discussion of what kinds of programs I would apply to, but I had made it clear that I had settled on MA programs. Does anyone think this is going to be a problem?

That's strange. Well, keep checking. My score reports changed from pending to sent at 3am last night, so these things can happen at odd times. The phone line is open "6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time, seven days a week." If you can't get the scores in time, I'd put in your Q and V and leave AW blank. I agree with iowaguy. It'd look shady if your AW from that specific test came back different. I have actually asked this very question of the UNC Religious Studies grad program administrator (hello, fellow historian of religion!), and she said the same thing.

Should I list my GRE scores/percentiles before official scores become available?

http://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/scores/get Scroll down to scores by phone. If your test has been scored, which you can tell by whether or not the score reports you requested after the test have a date sent rather than "pending" next to them, you can call ETS to get your scores over the phone for 12 bucks. It's obviously just a scheme to get more money. How they can have you scores available on an automated phone system but not viewable on your online account is beyond me, but that's the way it works. I would be very surprised if your scores weren't available, because I took the test on 11/29, and my scores became available this morning.
