  1. Happened to check the ol' status site today and they regret to inform me that my application was not selected. No email. Thanks, Brooklyn. Stay classy.
  2. Let's talk about how I paid one hundred and twenty-five dollars to have my application sit in an untouched pile for months. No worries. It's not like I wanted my file to be reviewed. It's not like I wanted to be compared to my fellow applicants before admissions were offered. That would be way too fair. I totally understand, Brooklyn. Is it just me, or is this bitterness justified? You don't have to answer that, just nod in agreement. ;p
  3. Ummmmmm, it is April. Now. Right now. Geez.. Who did you call, grad admissions or someone n the department?
  4. It says that for me too and I'm out-of-field, but I have completed some (but not all!) prereqs. I wouldn't worry about it. I figure discrepancies will be resolved in advising.
  5. I have a feeling it will be a very active waitlist...
  6. Hi! Just curious, did you contact Hunter first to inquire about your application status or did they randomly message you?
  7. Nevermind! I just double-checked and the distance fee at the school I had in mind was actually more. Whoops, sorry.
  8. School A sounds so dreamy it might actually be worth some research you aren't interested in... Is there a possibility you could growth to love it? Why do you say the research would be monotonous at school B if it is what you prefer to study? I'm not understanding that part.
  9. Even though the courses are online, you will still have to do supervised clinical externships, right? So you aren't missing out on personal interaction or the hands-on learning experience. As far as I know, distance programs generally have cheaper tuition. The only real cons I can think of are that you might miss campus amenities like access to the library and gym. Also, I wouldn't mind the program taking a couple of semesters longer to finish if it meant I could still work full-time during. Seems solvent in my opinion!
  10. You should probably email them to make sure everything is okay.
  11. You had an interview at Brooklyn already? Yikes, I guess that means I'm out...
  12. Aren't you allowed to apply for the scholarships before getting a decision?
  13. Hi, thanks for sharing about USU's non-degree program. I was checking it out and the only concern I have is the "proctored exam." Have you done that in any of your classes? It seems like a hassle to find a proctor because I am out-of-state, and I can't figure out how to access the list of certified proctors.
  14. First of all, I love the honesty and down-to-earthness of your reply! I too get upset when people think they can get away with something that is absurd and unfair. I probably would have worded my reply as a question, seeking explanation of the relationship, before telling them they were misinformed. That way, you would have some meat to work with in either explaining why it is not true, or for digesting the reason for rejection yourself. But since it wasn't a program you cared about.. whatever. lol
  15. Trilingual, that is excellent. Experience/ability is sometimes more compelling than grades. Seems like they should go for it! But also develop a backup plan, just in case. Perhaps the poor grades are due to poor written English? My bilingual friends often needed help editing their assignments. Professors would fail them on grammar.. See if he/she can get some sort of tutoring assistance in the undergrad college. It could help a lot. Again, as long as they are willing and able to put in the effort, why not try!
  16. You received some optimistic advice here that I agree with. I just want to play the other card and ask (and adcomms will ask too): why speech? Is this what he/she is truly passionate about? If there is strong enough motivation, acceptance is definitely possible. If you want something badly enough, I believe you can get it. But if this is a desperate attempt to just get a career in anything, it might not be worth it for your friend. Speech-language pathology is a hyper-competitive field right now, and it certainly is not an easy route. How badly does your friend want this? Show it in grades. Never too late to start giving it your all. Your options are to try or not try. Why not try?
  17. I can't figure out the rest of the lyrics, but the chorus I had in mind: We are never, ever, ever getting a decision letter! ;p
  18. Nice job, Socks! I sang the whole thing, out loud, and it was beautiful and emotional lol. We need some GC Karaoke! Here's the first chunk of lyrics from Taylor Swift's We Are Never Getting Back Together: I remember filling out apps, the first time. Saying, "This is it, I've had enough," 'cause like, I submitted early by a month When you said it's incomplete. (What?)
  19. According to the code of ethics, an SLP should not take a case he/she doesn't feel comfortable with. And SLP is so much more than just articulation. I definitely believe you can become an SLP without "perfect speech" and choose the area and population you feel adequately capable to work with.
  20. You could cut out the "from a very young age" paragraph. High school is too far removed to matter much.
