Thanks everyone! It's kind of hard to concentrate at work, especially knowing that I won't be here for much longer. Soon I'll be back to student-pauper status... but gladly so :)

  2. Not sure I could handle this. I feel like I would go straight to the bottle if this happened to me. Fingers crossed for you!
  3. Thanks! Found it on the website first, and an email came about 30 mins later. My official admit letter won't load though. Oh well!
  4. Just got into Arizona State! Woo hoo! First notification of the season for me. This is a good omen
  5. I probably should've started this under Interdisciplinary Studies, but this program is pretty literature oriented (and English programs are pretty much becoming Cultural Studies programs) that I did what I did. I also heard around January 4th about a missing transcript that needed to be in by the 11th for consideration. Since then, I've heard nothing. Someone notes above that they are sending letters (by snail mail) mid-March. This seems to be a departure from their past admissions procedures... I might call at the end of this week.
  6. Ok, I'll bite (since Deadinthewater's response is the epitome of a buzzkill). Literature helps me understand the world around me. It gives me hope that I'll find the meaning of life -- my tiny, insignificant life as well as that which characterizes all animate beings -- by giving me kernels and nuggets of truth, word by word. For me, literature has the power to explain everything. Each novel or poem or short story or film I experience seems to me a series of analogies within a larger analogy, each speaking to some aspect of the universe in myriad ways. This is why I want to study, understand, an teach literature. Because it is a gateway for me to so much more than prestige or renown or the meteoric rise of a career. ... That, and I don't want to continue as a corporate cog
  7. No acceptances or rejections today. I did, however, get selected for an exclusive tasting of super-aged, bourbon barrel Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Win.

      That sounds delicious. Lucky you!

  8. Wow, mid-March is a lot later than they've traditionally notified! Well, guess that will save us from some short-term, acute anxiety...
  9. I emailed them today about a transcript that had been missing a few weeks back. While they remained vague, I got the impression decisions haven't been made yet...

Thankfully, none of my schools should have notified yet. I'm just jealous of all the acceptances thus far...

Ah, so just calming the nerves then. I hope you begin to hear soon.

  11. Yikes, I'm glad I'm two years removed from my M.A. thesis. It made for a less stressful application rush, though I was a bit rusty and had to dredge up a lot of old material to get my WS in order. I couldn't imagine not knowing my impending country of residence, though. I'll drink a good vibes beer for you
  12. Having heard nothing at this point, I'm pretty sure I'd take any form of communication, from a timid "yes" to a resounding "no" to a "what the hell were you thinking applying here?!" Just sayin'. Put me out of my misery already.
  13. Well, good luck to you! Judging by past years' entries on the results board, we're past their normal notification date. I can't seem to find many others on GC applying there, so it's possible they've made calls and we have no idea :s Fingers crossed!
  14. The silence is, well, silent.

      Painfully, dreadfully silent...

I read that as 'deadfully...' >_<

  15. Anyone else apply to this program? If so, has anyone heard anything? There's nothing on the results board but they notified last year around this time and in 2011 even earlier...

I would do it too but am sick, so can't. damned antibiotics

  17. I agree on the point that little mistakes won't keep us out. But the first sentence of my SOP is a rhetorical question. Upon submitting my first app to UC Santa Barbara, tears of joy became tears of rage when I realized I left the question mark out. So much for that app. If adcoms read anything, it's the first sentence.
  18. Anyone out there applying to this program? I can't find much on it aside from a single rejection from the results board and some email swapping with POIs. The program looks VERY interesting, though it is very new. I applied just as a wild card outside of my English PhD aspirations. Thoughts?
  19. From what I've been told, graduate programs often discourage students from their affiliated undergraduate from applying to the same school for graduate study. Apparently, this is for the sake of branching out, networking, diversity of opportunity, etc. However, this might be more true of terminal MA programs than PhD programs. I went to the same school for my BA and MA in English, and just as I was finishing, the program was launching a brand new PhD program. They were adamant that no one from our program apply -- they said they would only accept applicants from other institutions.
