  1. Awesome, I just noticed this. I would love to connect and find out more about the program.
  2. Thank you for this information! I just like to know what I am getting in to.
  3. Yes! I have heard. I am actually in the process of applying for that right now. Where and when did you hear about its possible "flimsiness?"
  4. Yeah, in addition to teaching them English, I would really love to take some Georgian lessons. I know a little bit, but my knowledge of the language is very rudimentary. If I do get it, I am going to try to find some way I can also work on my language skills. What is your everyone's knowledge of their host country's language?
  5. Location specific, that's probably a better way to put it. English is not very widely spoken in Georgia, although its government is really trying to change that. That's why I think a language camp would be particularly beneficial.
  6. Yeah, that is something along the lines of what my adviser told me. Also, do a project that is not region specific. That being said, I want to set up some kind of English language camp where both kids and maybe even adults can express themselves creatively with a focus on poetry, children's tales, and photography.
  7. Thank you for this! I will be sure to check it out.
  8. That would be sweet. Yes! I love khachiburi..but just about anything from the Caucasus is bound to be delicious.
  9. Another Caucasus applicant! We are few and far between. I applied to Georgia.
  10. I am getting antsier and antsier as the days go by. I find it interesting that some country profiles have a lot of information for the applicants, while other pages are scarce. I wonder why it is not more uniform - stipend, grant duration, housing, assignments, etc.?
  11. I am looking at some sort of teaching English program or Peace Corps at this point. Teaching is not something I necessarily want to do longterm, but I think it would be a good interim solution before either entering a career or grad school.
  12. This spreadsheet may be useful to you all as well. It looks like from 2007 until 2009 German applicants did not hear back until early April. It is still relatively early. Also, it looks like the majority of notifications go out in April with a few in March and May respectively. Of course, it would be helpful if I posted the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuGpbWEh-3b0dHZzTU1BN0lNLU1yeG5XWktnY2k3bmc#gid=1
  13. NO! Ha, yes, I am probably one of the few people in this country (US) who automatically thinks of the country first, and the state second when someone says Georgia.
  14. That is true...It is not something I would want to go over and over again. I was calmer two weeks ago than I am now...now I am growing ever more curious.
  15. I know, right? Of course, if I did not receive good news, I might not say anything.
  16. Thank you for all your feedback! I really do appreciate it.
  17. I really appreciate all the information regarding English teaching. I have a question regarding TOEFL classes, are they worth it? Do they help at all? If I were to receive the ETA, I was planning on taking a course this summer to help prepare me a little more, although I do have some experience, but I was not sure which route to take. CELTA sounds like a great opportunity, however, I am not sure teaching is something that I want to do long term at this point. Does anyone have any insight?
  18. Congratulations and hugs to the UKers! It is nice to know that some rain has come down during our dry spell. Let's hope it pours soon!
  19. Agreed. I didn't know there was a name for it! But I guess there is a name for just about everything these days. I am also glad that I am not the only one.
  20. Where was the source, if you don't mind me asking? Damn sequester...damn congress. What's important about cross-cultural exchange and education, anyway? *shakes head* If this is the case, I worry that smaller programs would be more at risk than larger ones. Does anyone have any insight on this?
  21. Indeed. This, and looking up stupid stuff to try and avoid doing homework. Not the best of plans. =)
  22. I do not hear anything either. :|
  23. Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, what was the subject line of your email?
  24. Yeah, right... Two incredibly useful websites about country placements for the Peace Corps lost funding and were taken down. This is all at a time when I am applying and would like to know as much information as possible/what it is I am getting into. Grr.
  25. I don't know about that...I am a graduating senior and it is tough not knowing what is going to happen after I graduate. I am waiting on notification from Fulbright obviously, but also the Peace Corps, jobs to which I am applying; it is all up in the air right now. So, these kinds of things are ALWAYS on my mind.
