  1. Hey did your admission status change to say "accepted" or is it still "referred to grad dept"?
  2. You have lots of experience... I'm screwed! Lol
  3. Yes they do. Unfortunately I don't exactly have the type of related social work experience they desired. I'm a clinical assistant for a behavior company that does early intervention for children with autism/ mental health and turns out it was not the desired type of experience they wanted from applicants when I asked around. Even if its in the mental health category. Sucks but that's probably about the only experience I have close enough to it. Just hoping I have a leg up than other applicants in the pool. *fingers crossed* Hoping I get to join that "relief" group soon lol
  4. Did you have any social work experience before applying?
  5. Ahhhhhh... Can't take this torture!!! .. I hope he/she gets accepted to Berkeley so we would have a higher chance of getting in. Lol
  6. How did you find out they started sending out admissions? Someone you know or someone on this forum?
  7. I chose CYF but I don't mind doing mental health if it meant getting the stipend. Got an email yesterday from the msw stipend dept people as I'm sure you guys might have received one as well. If not, they wanted me to submit my application for the stipend program along with other paperwork but they won't even review it unless they got word that I was accepted.
  8. I tried not to call ... But I did... My application is currently under review... Blahhhhh... So sometime in "mid march or later" I will know the results... The way she said it didn't seem pleasing.. Hoping she doesn't see comments when she pulled up my app that said I wasn't accepted... Don't want to know that displeasing voice was a hint to tell me that I didn't get in...
  9. This wait is KILLLLLLLLLING ME!!!!!! Lol
  10. Yikes! 2 years experience and they still didn't let you in? I don't have that much exp so now I'm second guessing my chances of getting in. How's your reference? anyone with MS or PHD? Barry said he looked closely at experience, reference and personal statement first before grades.
  11. Oh that sucks. Well hopefully your luck changes this year. Did you have any work experience before applying the first time?
  12. Assuming you graduated in 4 years, how did you accumulate so many hours as a case manager since you graduated last may? This is to also assume that you worked full time 40hrs a week because that would only give you 960 hrs a year. Find it weird because it would take someone working full time for 4 years straight to accumulate 3800hrs and you surpassed that in one year.
  13. I graduated in 2011 and when I attended that university, the school just didn't have anything that would make you want to stay on campus to really do. Not much of a place to want to eat, do any activities, and they have a crap load of stairs ( I'm not referring to buildings but concrete stairs outside to pretty much get to every building, not saying im fat and lazy cause im not but damn wayyyyy too much cardio on an empty stomach lol) and it floods insanely bad during the rainy seasons and makes those stairs seem like they belong in a large pond for the amount of water gushing down. Since this school allows smoking on campus, there is constant smoke everywhere you go and it doesn't matter where they put those ashtrays containers because a lot of these students walk around chain smoking. I had some hit and run in the parking lot as well cause idiots just don't know how to park. Professor wise: they are pretty cool and knowledgable. I haven't really had one that I really disliked only a few I thought were extremely boring and non engaging. Also to get to that school there are only 2 ways and a lot of the times, especially around 2-5pm, getting home would take veryyyyy long because of all the traffic. I'm sure each school has their flaws but east bay had way too much
  14. I went to CSUEB for my undergrad in psych. I still have time to apply for them and submit everything but don't think I will. Did not like that school at all. Where did you go?
  15. Yeah early admissions were for those who had experience first with good recs from what Barry said. They all get to go in first but im just hoping that they chose the part time route since they need to work for income. Hoping I'll get that early admission. From his info meeting, anyone with 4k hrs of experience are more favored to get in first before they go with anyone else. Submitted my app with only 2500 hrs of exp so I guess it's better than nothing.
  16. Would she know if we got in or not? Lol
  17. Yeahhhhhh you need to relax.. You are wayyyy overreacting lol. When you call admission (whether its the school or dept) it's usually only the HR people who only knows if you submitted everything or not and if apps are in review. They themselves do NOT make decisions based on what you submitted unless you didnt submit something in time or didn't submit something in which they put you in the denied section. You should have called first to find out rather than waiting a week.
  18. ......... One more month of waiting.....
  19. I didn't get a confirmation. I emailed director of admission but he never replied so I contacted the social work dept and asked if they received everything and they said yes. Takes them less than 15 seconds to check if you give them your sjsu id#. As long as you submitted everything before the deadline you're good. I believe the first review will be getting rid of those who don't meet requirements or haven't submitted all documents. The second part of reviews are letting in people who work for the state or have more years in social work experience in and then everyone else. The best part I like about this is that majority of them will probably chose part time first so they can work and go to school at the same time without losing income so those who applied for full time without all those experience have a good chance of getting in.
  20. I find myself checking my application status 5x a day knowing it won't be til much later that they are going to post up anything... Hahah
  21. I'm from the Central Valley so I will be relocating. I did live in the Bay Area when I attended csueb for my undergrad.
  22. Called SJSU and and they wont review applications until mid feb and will start sending out letters mid march til end of april. To those who do get in will get a phone call first from Barry goldman, the director of admission. As for csueb, since apps end in march, we wont find out til may/june ...
  23. The gpa for Sjsu is 2.5 and I think that goes for all csu but I may be wrong. I applied to Sjsu and csueb and they are both 2.5. Your gpa is very good so that shouldn't worry you at all. My gpa isn't all that great. As for your experience, 5 years is a lot even if its just counseling. From what I was told at Sjsu, they look for experience and Letters of recs first before gpa because it tells much of the person applying. I have about two years of field experience working with mental health children and I'm hoping this gives me a leg in. Good luck with everything! Let me know how it goes
