I am convinced this application season is killing me December 1st deadlines and yet no notifications. There are only two more weeks in January...everytime my iphone reports new mail I dive for it, I frantically look in my mail box. I think I've got all the makings of an insane grad student. When will it all end

I hadn't even thought about that. What I great way to pass time, I always get engrossed in those episodes. On a separate note, I've been playing sims medieval in between reading the ten books I've been assigned for class. It is my official guilty pleasure.

The deadline is usually in April. They should mention it on their website.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, I didn't see it when I quickly scrolled through, but you could always distract them from acceptance with asking for a visit. So in response to getting accepted: "I got accepted? That's fantastic news! I would love to visit the department sometime in [month], how would I go about setting that up?" In this way you can avoid the awkwardness of mentioning other schools, you can go see if the department meshes with your personality, and you have expressed the correct amount of enthusiasm and consideration for said school. Just my thought anyway

Has anybody heard anything from UF or some of the other programs that have December 1st deadlines? The UF site says that they will have the files reviewed in December and will make decisions in January and February. When is the earliest you think we'll hear back?

So today I received a strange email from the graduate director of my top school. In it she is telling me to apply for a Ph.D. fellowship that she thinks I am extremely competitive for. She also says that she has asked the department if she could forward references and materials for me. In addition to this she told me that if one were to get said fellowship the department will look into supplementing it and that she would be available to help me apply for it this weekend. So my question is: Am I the only one who thinks this is a little odd? I haven't really received any word back from this school as far as acceptance or rejection. Should I allow myself to get hopeful or am I getting excited for nothing? I've already applied for this fellowship btw and let her know. In my mind, one does not discuss supplementing income, being competitive, or offer to help during a weekend if the department thinks you're not worthy. But then again, I could be deluding myself because I want in so bad. Thoughts?
