  1. Me: "I got an interview!" Family: " For a job?" Me: "No for grad school!" Family: "Oh...." *seriously I only talk about it everyday* "Where did you apply?" "all over, to like 15 schools" "uh, why so many?" - BECAUSE IT IS COMPETITIVE!!!! "I got an interview at Univ. of North Dakota!!!!" *ugly face* "what is in North Dakota, isn't it cold there?" "A flippin awesome PhD program for counseling psychology" "So what are you up to?" "Applying to phd programs" " Isn't that a lot of work?" LOL I have given up on telling people my updates because everyone is a debbie downer or just don't "get it" My fav- "So what programs are you applying to?" "Counseling psychology" "Oh, so you want to read minds?" ....huh?

  3. I went to Calarts....the Halloween party was the best...too expensive though
  4. My recommenders were great. After 15 applications one recommender pulled me aside and honestly told me they "were so lost" and did not know what was due. But since I helped when I could all 3 recommenders sent their online recommendations on time (with the exception of one). I guess I was lucky
  5. I started college at 16 yrs old before I finished high school. But I chose to pursue life and took the scenic route...now applying to PhD programs as non-traditional (older) student. ... *shakes head*
  6. Well said...reading this made me glad I am applying to Counseling Psychology Phd programs, where maturity, collaboration and understanding is highly valued in candidates. I could foreshadow some difficulties in the professional world with that type of..ummm...personality traits. Introspection and "soul searching" is a vital component that can propel that motivation to be a successful PhD candidate. There are many things you can take advantage of to make you an excellent candidate, especially since you are very young. Some experiences may humble you and some may show you that being in a *top* school is not the objective of the pursuit. Rather it is the best program that fits you.... Good luck in your endeavors and I wish you well. And I suggest you pursue more time to refine your skills...and gain some perspective.
