I spent $1000 applying to 7 programs - can't imagine 12+.

The math looks good to me. However, you should keep in mind my terrible quantitative GRE score.

Invitations for the campus visit weekend have already been all sent out, and I regret to say if you have not been contacted by this point, it does not look good for NW.

I currently teach adjunct at a large University, and although the pay is abysmal at least it's in my field. I'll probably keep doing that for another year and try again although the thought of another round of applications is miserable.

I'm now fairly convinced there was a typo in one of those two sentences.
-
Ha! I sent an email today (2 sentences) which I spent nearly 30 minutes proofreading. No mistakes though, I don't think.

Thanks for that. How did you enjoy your time there? Did you come away feeling like you would jump on an offer, should they give you a spot?

I turn 30 next week and hope to enter a program thIs fall. Took 4 years off between undergrad and masters to live and work in Japan, got my masters at age 28 and have been working as an adjunct the past couple years.

I don't have one until February 14.

Judging by the last 2 year's threads, we may have another month before we hear much more. I had a dream last night I was rejected to Stanford.

Good luck to anyone heading out to Eastman today.

I have used iThenticate both on my own work and that of my students. The University where I work makes this software available for us to use so I don't know how much it costs, but if you can find access to it, it works extremely well.

That Eastman interview is this weekend, correct? Best of luck to you, let us know how it goes.

Make sure you can intelligently discuss the desired course of your research and how University X would be a good fit. You should also familiarize yourself with recent scholarship of the faculty. I have a Northwestern interview and I am familiar with the writings of one faculty member in particular, so I will make sure to bone up on the work of the other faculty before I visit. I'll be at Northwestern from Feb. 14-16, and I'm not quite sure what to expect from a 3 day "interview". I imagine it will be a mixture of interviews, meetings with faculty and current students, sitting in on classes, and perhaps a social event or two. It's an extended visit and they are paying for everything, including my flight. Surely that's a good sign, right? Does anyone have a sense of how competitive it remains at this stage? I would welcome any general interview advice from those who have gone through this already. Should I expect any diagnostic exams during this visit? Do I need to dust off my solfege?

For my sake, I truly hope a miserable quantitative score (475) will not negatively impact my chances too drastically. It has been many, many years since I have been inside a math classroom.

Thanks Karajan, hopefully I'll hear some good news from them very soon.
