Not a good week for Princeton amd Berkeley applicants....congrats to those who received acceptances!!! Best of luck to everyone! May this new week bring acceptances for all of us!

I havent been checking my status on USAJobs. I got an email at the end of January that said my application was "eligible-forwarded to selecting official" and the head of my project emailed me Tuesday to set up an interview. I do not know the timeline of other projects but she said that decisions will be finalized later this month and acceptances will go out the beginning of March. After all slots are filled, rejections will go out (mid to end of March). Good Luck! If you get an interview let me know and I will share what my questions where.

Hey I applied for that internship too but for a spot in the music division (so hopefully we aren't competing!) Good luck to you! I had my interview this morning. But Im trying to figure out back up plans just in case.
-
So sometimes the wait is killer but maybe it would help to look past April 15th and share what some of your summer plans might be. I know many are contingent on college decisions. I think I could use some ideas about what to do or where to go. What say you all?

Well I received my rejection this morning too. Congrats on King's College which I think would be a great (and fun!) option! I lost one. Waiting to win one...

One of the best things you can do for a professor who wrote you a recommendation is write a letter to the dean of the department discussing how this professor has made it possible for you to proceed to the next stage in your career. This is incredibly valuable since it actually goes into the professor's file and is reviewed if he/she goes up for tenure or a full professorship (still good to have on file if he/she already are both). And its free! And then of course a thank you note and wine!

Main Graduate Department's role in admission?
musicmage09 replied to musicmage09's topic in Waiting it Out
Well I wonder if they would reject some candidates based on funding. Most of the programs I aapplying to are fully funded. I suppose if they can not find the funding they will have to choose who to keep or would they send the final decision back to the adcom? And then again who knows what they do! -
So from what I understand of the admission process (and I am sure it varies): your specific department reviews their applications and then makes recommendations of candidates to the main graduate department who then makes the final decision of whether to accept the candidate or not. What does the graduate department take into consideration for their final decisions? Is it common that they turn down applicants recommended by their departments?

I got a call from a car warranty scam company that had the same area code as one of my schools. I almost had a heart attack....and then they told me my cars warranty was about to run out....my car is 15 years old....

Its exciting to see some movement on the board! I, however, have come to the conclusion that I won't start hearing back until next week. It is so nice to see musicology/ ethno/ theory/ and comp acceptances on the board!
-
where did you end up going? what were your choices? Thanks so much for offering your insight!
-
From what I've seen in the past couple of years (at least in musicology), Yale (if they are doing interviews) will be sending out interview requests this coming week. Cornell has sent out acceptances early February (the 8th) and waitlisters are usually notified around Feb. 21. Princeton has been consistant with Feb. 10th at least the last two years.
-
Ok so Friday was a bust (except for the U of Chicago acceptance). Im pulling for next week to be a big one.
-
my screen says your're the 101th poster
-
If anything tomorrow is the first day of February and a stream of results will soon begin. Good luck to everyone!

Nice! we get pappy van winkle down in my area but the waiting list for a bottle is always looong.

If i get into a school: a new laptop! If not: a job : (

I was very specific about my minority status in my application. They emailed me to ask the percentage make up of my ethnicity.
-
Well thats one way to look at it! Keep up the optimism!
-
Thanks you guys! I know that its too early to call it but at least they are taking a second look (hopefully! fingers crossed)
-
A school today emailed me today saying they are reviewing my application and wanted more specific information about my minority background. Anyone else had an email like this? Do you think this means that they are seriously considering my application? Or am I just way too hopeful!? : )

Weird Acceptance Letter?? Is it an acceptance?
musicmage09 replied to lalalalala2013's topic in Waiting it Out
The letter seems pretty generic "you've been admitted to a masters program," but it also says "you've been admitted to a masters program." Feel free to email your POI about the acceptance. Congrats! -
Welcome CMP3383! Catenaires: Have you had your Princeton interview yet? If so, how did it go?
