  1. Accepted to SFU! Unfortunately they didn't offer me funding, although they did say I'm "eligible for competitive funding opportunities." Judging by their handbook I assume people normally get funding offers with their acceptance, so I'm kind of sad. Ah well, it's great just to get in.

  3. Nice! Congrats!
  4. I have a strong desire to hug you, internet stranger. And I think that schools, as God0PlayDice said, notify based on the strengths of their applicants -- but since you brought it up, I'm glad I'm a C...
  5. I received word from UVic today asking about external funding. They said "an admission offer will follow shortly." So I assume I've been accepted, if they're looking into funding for me. The end of this madness is soon upon us, friends. Hang in there.
  6. Keep clicking refresh. My inbox remains empty. No hope for today.
  7. I'm 21, but I'll be 22 in August before I (hopefully) head off to grad school.

  9. On the topic of sports: "Are you going to try out for their varsity soccer team?" Sure, footie practice five times a week and games every weekend? No big deal...
  10. Indeed! UVic, SFU, UOttawa, and Concordia. I've heard nothing from any of them so far, and I'm checking my status online... hem... "regularly"... *cough*10timesaday*cough* Have you heard anything?
  11. A friend applied to my top school (same program) last year and didn't hear back until April 8th. So, I'm assuming I'm in for a long wait as well.
  12. Go for run on treadmill. Reward self with checking on status of applications.

  15. I finally got my "Interim," hah! On another note, my SSHRC application has been nominated by my university. While that doesn't necessarily mean I've got the award, I took that as a good sign that my proposal is at least good. Since my SSHRC app became my grad school apps I'm feeling a bit better about my chances of actually getting into a program. But only a bit.
  16. Ditto. I should be writing a chapter. Instead I'm on Grad Cafe.
  17. Mmmm I'm with everyone else. I'm not ready to be a PhD student. MAs seem much safer to my 'lil undergrad brain.
  18. I tried not to think about it so I certainly don't have anything that could be called a "plan," but if I don't get accepted anywhere I think I'll work and re-apply next year. I've also be toying with the idea of writing the LSAT or perhaps applying to professional programs like a masters in library and information science for the fall of 2014.

  20. Excellent news, congratulations!
  21. Mmm, my UVic app still says "App forwarded for review." Concordia was updated yesterday from something along the lines of "We will begin processing in the next few weeks" to "Your file is being assessed and we will notify you when a decision has been made." It's good to see change, but I second your feeling of being driven nuts. I hope I get an "interim" soon, haha.
  22. I've applied to MA programs at Concordia, UOttawa, UVictoria, and SFU. Concordia and Victoria were due the 15th, SFU was the 25th, and UOttawa is due today. I don't expect to hear back until mid March. Sitting and stirring with you!
  23. Yea, Auster is an interesting guy-- the trilogy was his fiction at its best. He has remarkable ideas, but in his later work he tends to fall apart. If you're interested in reading more of him, I recommend his non-fiction. Hand to Mouth is a fantastic autobiography, The Art of Hunger is a collection of essays (he's a wonderful essayist), and his newest memoir Winter Journal is also worth a read. You can tell he's influenced heavily by other writers. There were moments in City of Glass that were almost taken straight out of Beckett's Watt.
  24. I had a dream that I got a SSHRC (a $17500 grant) and had to turn it down because I wasn't accepted anywhere.
