Has anyone else officially decided on USF? -
SLP Grad School Must Haves... What supplies do we need??
SLPjmar replied to hopefulslp88's topic in Life Sciences
Really? That was my initial question! I feel like in the long-run, both academically and career-wise, it makes sense for me to purchase my own. Do you have any recommendations about types/brands? -
A lot of schools abide by the April 15th date. However, I know some schools use a different notification timeline. Don't lose hope until you've officially heard a response from every place. You're still waiting on UCF and Northeastern, and you were waitlisted at UF too!

Oh my, this is too great! Definitely adding this to my wish list. -
I've seen scattered acceptances over the past few days from UCF. Also, the notorious April 15th is coming up . Don't lose hope!

My mom is so cute . She has been texting me a bunch of ideas/materials that she thinks I would be able to use during therapy. I think she's almost more excited than I am!

I'm not an AuD student, but I will be attending USF for speech-language pathology! I assume that we will be seeing some of each other. I am also coming from out of state. -
Agree!

Very good point. Maybe I'll just focus on a new wardrobe instead . I recently lost about 60 lbs, so I need to get some new warm weather clothes!

Very random, but has anyone considered buying a laminator for grad school? Now that I have officially made a decision (yay!), I am trying to make a list of things I will need. Does having your own laminator seem practical, or too much?
-
Well, there's no going back for me. I'm just going to do my best, and maybe a lot of outside research , to make sure I can help my clients as much as possible. I know that grad school is meant to make you self sufficient, and I would expect that anywhere. Plus, at a real job, there won't be a supervisor telling me what to do with every single client. I'm hoping that I see a wide range of clients at USF! It sounded like we can see almost everything, which is exciting. However, I am going to try and find a small part time job. Since all of the assistant ships went out, I'll have to find something else!

Hmm, I wonder how the clinic supervisors were not supportive. At my undergrad institution, it seems that the students are always very stressed as well. I think graduate school may just be a stressful time regardless of the program. After all, it is 2 years of intensive training before we enter the work force. They don't want to produce graduates who aren't fully prepared. I'm really hoping that I'll be able to make it through the entire program.

That makes me really nervous How did it seem stressful to you?

I'm very sorry that you had to experience this. The application process is confusing, and rarely seems fair. I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

Hoping you guys have a great open house tomorrow! Wish I could've made it. -
Thank you!! USF was always one of my top choices... I just never thought I could get in! I am so excited to head down there and start. It's going to be a time.

Loosing Hope, Is anyone else in the same boat?

I was told that if you meet/exceed the 50th %ile, or your combined scores exceed 300, you are a competitive applicant. However, that does vary from institution to institution. -
Thanks Now, on to apartment hunting in Tampa!!

I am submitting my decision to USF tomorrow. This has been the most difficult decision of my life to make, but I feel like I'm making the right one.

On ASHAs website, they list specific state requirements! -
Undergraduate Transfer?
SLPjmar replied to SLPeechHopeful's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Thank you! Schools know that almost everyone is a part of NSSLHA at some point, so I'm sure they don't put that much weight on it. There are so many things to set you apart other than club participation. I think you will have an easier time than you think. -
Undergraduate Transfer?
SLPjmar replied to SLPeechHopeful's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I transferred to my undergrad institution as a sophomore and I didn't have nearly as much experience as you mentioned above! It is all very do-able. I kept my GPA high and became involved in a lot of other things, not all SLP related. Good luck!!! -
I think there's a lot that could be improved about the whole application/admissions process. I'm sure there is a method to the madness, but that doesn't make any of us feel better when we are going through it!!

Are the UCF acceptances for Fall or Summer? It's possible that they aren't even notifying for your term!
-
Good luck!!!!!
