Waitlisted - waiting for your school AND everyone else's
SLPjmar replied to RubyBright's topic in Waiting it Out
I can't believe it's almost April, and I still have no plans for after May 22nd (my graduation). This is the worst. The Britta of all situations. -
I can't believe it's almost April.
-
When you applied, did you receive any type of confirmation from them? I got one email from the grad school saying my app would be forwarded for review, but nothing from the dept. itself.
-
Ha, my mom is so funny! For the past few days, she's been sending me a text every afternoon updating me on the contents of our mail.
-
It said email though. Very weird.
-
Some people have now actually found out that they are waitlisted at USF. I have tried calling the department several times but no one actually answers there.
-
I hope so too, although I know a few people from th thread last year also declined. I wonder if they ever pull from the waitlist or not.
-
Hm. It didn't look to me that anyone was accepted off of USCs waitlist in results any of the past years.
-
Totally agree! Open houses also let you interact with faculty and current students. It can give you a real "feel" of the program. Although I feel that your visits will help a ton.
-
Apparently USF is having an open house even on April 4th. However, the bulk of us (over 300 "waitlisted", apparently) will not get to participate if we are ever moved from the list. It is very frustrating and almost isolating.
-
This is also the issue I'm running into with USF. They have a sort of unofficial waitlist, but none of us were ever notified of this. I have been sitting in the dark with no clue as to what my standing is with them. I feel like it is better for everyone if we just know!

Why are they making me wait so long for a rejection?
SLPjmar replied to jbean's topic in Waiting it Out
I am also in limbo with you guys. But since I haven't been officially rejected or waitlisted, I am assuming that I am still being considered (someway, somehow). Good luck! -
Ha, it's funny you should post that. I was looking at that earlier, and assumed that just like the year before, the adcom takes its time making decisions.
-
It's weird. How has only one person (that we know of) heard back? I know several people here who have heard nothing, including myself.
-
It's not their first choice, they wish they would have been rejected for an easier decision making process, etc. Silly!
-
I'm also starting to get uneasy about UVA. Absolutely no one in field that I know of has heard anything either way. I feel like it's super weird.

Waitlisted - waiting for your school AND everyone else's
SLPjmar replied to RubyBright's topic in Waiting it Out
I also haven't been told by two of the schools that I am waitlisted. I am assuming that since they made their first rounds of acceptances, the rest of us are just waiting. Waiting to find out if the elite applicants accept, and we will find out more then. -
Definitely. I just kept repeating that it is wonderful to get acceptances, and the positives outweigh the negatives, etc. I think they just liked to hear themselves say it over and over .

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
SLPjmar replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
People ask me all the time if I've decided where to go, knowing that I haven't heard back. I think they believe it to be like it was 30 years ago, where YOU got to make the decision of where you wanted to go. If I could pick, BELIEVE ME I would have done so by now. -
I think it is really a personal preference. If you feel like NYU is your dream school, then you should go for it!! I lived in New York my whole life, and I can tell you that the cost of living (rent, groceries, utilities, tax) is really, really high. But there are always different ways to make it work. In my personal opinion, if a school is accredited and has a solid program, I don't think it matters where you go in the end (unless you want to go into research, of course). If you feel more comfortable staying in-state and low on debt, I don't think you will be at a disadvantage. Good luck with your decision making.
-
All day today I had to listen to people actually COMPLAINING about their acceptances. I was ready to pull my hair out.
-
It somewhat bothers me when people post on the results "rejected here but accepted to a more competitive school, why????". Not every school is looking for the same things. I doubt any of us is every school's ideal applicant. Blah, just getting more and more irritated as time goes by.
-
I agree that casting a much wider net may be helpful. Initially I did not want to get too far from the east coast. If I have to reapply, I am going to apply anywhere I am considered competitive and that matches my intended concentration. I am not limited at all, so I probably shouldn't have done that to myself to start.
