Yes; it was an email from my POI. The interviews aren't until Feb 12-14, so there's still plenty of time for invitations to go out. I'm sure many more will go out in the coming weeks. Best wishes!

Sure--I believe it was Dec. 1. However, I am certain that each department, and possibly even each concentration, is on its own timeline with regard to the review/invitation process.

Yes; PhD in Teaching & Learning.

Thankd EdNeuroGirl! I got an interview at Vanderbilt! I'm so surprised and elated!

I don't have an interview invitation, but on the ultra-slim chance I get one, I am curious how you all are planning to prepare.

I have a friend who got accepted last year with no interview. He found out in late March I think, so suspects he was waitlisted while they interviewed most.

Yes! I hope they don't do that in January, though. Any email from the admissions office makes my stomach do somersaults.

I just didn't submit one. They had space for all the info on it, so I guess they weren't interested in how pretty we made them.

I went to visit TC and Vandy, and was far more impressed with the advisor I met with at TC. Didn't get a change to visit HGSE, but with the scholarship offers and the strong impression made by my visit, I just made the best decision I could. Looking back, I think I'd choose HGSE if I had it to do over again. Even if it was slightly more expensive, it seems to be less of a diploma mill than TC.

I ended up at TC. My GRE was 159Q/164V

Keep your heads up! I got in a couple of years ago, and I had neither a title on my SoP, nor higher than a 4.5 AWA.

Thank you for your thoughts! Undergrad was 10 years ago, so I think they would have very little to say.

I'm in the awkward position of having run out of professors to ask for my third LOR. I did a 1-year master's program, and made pretty strong contacts with a couple of professors, but not with three apparently. Since I only took one class with most professors, and my thesis was overseen by a doctoral candidate, I just don't know whom else to ask. I've been rejected by three professors with whom I took one class, with good reason. They really don't know me well enough to write a strong letter. However, I received an A+ from one of these professors, and am considering replying to her rejection with almost a beg. I want to say that I know we didn't work closely together on any research, but that I am simply in need of a third recommendation which doesn't have to be as strong as the other two. I can provide my CV and explain how my interests align to my current work, but I still recognize that this letter may be weak. Would it be completely out of line to reply to a rejection in this way? Do I risk getting a torpedo of a rec?

Potential Teachers, where did you apply?

I got waitlisted for STEP, no interview. -
@moyru, if it makes you feel any better, one of my LOR was about two weeks late, and I still got in.

I have another rookie first-generation college student question: There is a conference at my school I am considering applying to present at, so cost wouldn't be an issue. As a master's student I think I really only have one chance at this. If my paper fits pretty well with the theme of this small, less prestigious (than other journals I was considering submitting my paper to) conference, should I try for this one, or hold out for a peer-reviewed journal? (Field: Education) Any advice is appreciated--I'm pretty ignorant about these things.

Of the 15 or so TFA CMs in my school, I know of none who are teaching their area of expertise. I know a Chemistry major teaching math, a Biology major teaching math, a history major teaching Biology, a history major teaching ELL, a business law major teaching math, etc. You'll be placed where the need is greatest. If you go the traditional route, not only will you be better prepared, but you'll have a lot more control over your career.

I have to open a new bank account, because I currently use a credit union that doesn't have a branch in NYC where I'll be attending grad school. Does anyone have any advice/things to look for as I scope out good banks in NYC? Capitol one seems to have a lot of ATMs, convenient ways to deposit cheques, and relatively few fees. Thoughts?

My roommate met with a broker, and her dad has agreed to be our guarantor on the lease, but they said they need a letter of indemnification from my parents, saying something like if she bails, he's only responsible for her half of the rent. Does anyone know anything about these, or how to go about drafting one?

Does anyone know of an archive of action research projects students may peruse for ideas/examples? I'm wondering if universities have any in-house publications of these. Or if they often get published at the master's level. I'm afraid it's going to be really hard for me to settle on a topic, and I want to make sure to do a fantastic job on it, as I plan to apply to PhD programs someday.

Congrats! Did anyone on here apply for a Zankel Fellowship? If so, has anyone heard back yet?

Well I just declined a 2/3 scholarship... so hopefully that frees up some funds for one of you lovely people to pick up

This is what happened to me. I kept asking my sister for advice, then trying to find ways to discount her opinion... which is how I realized where my heart really was.
