  1. Sweet! I just requested to join the FB group. The exam doesn't seem too bad...considering we can get a C on it to pass. I guess I'm a little biased though because my undergrad major was psych so it's mostly all review...
  2. Thanks Michigan Girl! I am a Macro Practice student so I definitely appreciate the insight on these two organizations.
  3. Thanks for clearing that up! I was a bit confused about that as well.
  4. I got the email. Thanks.
  5. I applied to graduate housing..because I'm not entirely sure where to start looking...there is so much to consider! I may not necessarily commit to it because in previous correspondence Lance said that he would help facilitate this in some way? So I don't know if he's setting up a Google Doc about people's living situations or if current/incoming MSW students have a room/need a room. Still have not received it. I'm starting to pretty impatient about it....going to make a few calls if I don't hear anything by the end of this month. It's taking forever!
  6. Going to Boston tomorrow and for the rest of the weekend to check out the campus! Flying in from SoCal. Let me know if any of you want to meet up! I'd love to talk to a prospective BU MSW student to get some insight to facilitate my decision ( as I currently cannot make up my mind -__-)
  7. Haha interesting! I am pretty set on UCLA. I just went to the welcome day and all of my questions/concerns were addressed. I'm flying out to Boston tonight to meet with BU juuuust in case. But I definitely think I'm leaning towards UCLA. What was your selling point for UCLA...or made you NOT choose BU...however you want to look at it?
  8. Interesting! I think I agree with you. I was just admitted into MSW and am selecting a macro focus. I noticed that most of the guys I met elected to do the same
  9. Keep your enemies close! In my undergrad I had an issue with a student who I considered my "friend". We were in a small, 15 person class together. I would talk to him, with my walls down, about my ideas about the class or things that I wanted to contribute. Soon enough, I saw that he began using my ideas. At first I let it go because I thought that maybe he just liked my ideas a lot and was excited about them or he was frustrated that I didn't bring them up right away inc lass so he figured he would. After a point, it got annoying...then frustrating..then really upsetting. I stopped telling him my ideas and instead emailed them straight to the professor OR brought them up in class when I was sure everyone was listening so that he could not claim my ideas. It's tough...but I learned that people will try to steal your ideas in a heartbeat if you let them. Be private about your conceptualizations, make sure most of your correspondence is in email (so you can prove it was your idea), and make sure you share your ideas in front of a group including the professor so that way there is no discrepancy in who said what or whose idea was it initially.
  10. Think about why you signed up for your program in the first place- what are you trying to achieve? Also, make attainable short and long term goals for yourself!!! If you have trouble motivating yourself you could simply ask your advisor what your weaknesses are or places where he thinks you need to improve. Take that advice/criticism as a challenge and do it.
  11. Pre-game with Jack. Go somewhere with greasy bar food and share a few pitchers of beer. Can never go wrong.
  12. Haha I'm contemplating this same thing! Still not sure what to do...but that's a good point with not wanting to come home and constnatly be thinking about the program. Hmm..
  13. WTF! Did your dog kill your bird?? Congrats Aya!!! :DD We're gonna be RIVALS!!! Haha.
  14. What are you all doing about housing??! I'm not sure if I should try for Graduate Student Housing or find a roommate and get a nearby apartment.... I need to start looking into this!! lol
  15. I got admitted to the Macro track as well! See you all on the Welcome Day!!!
  16. Haha. I assumed I was alone in the BU/UCLA struggle...specifically. Oh that is a problem! If you got admitted into UCLA MSW then I would assume getting into their MPH would be easy if you have demonstrated that you already got accepted and especially if you do well in the MSW program this coming year. I think I'm leaning more towards UCLA. They offered me more money than BU and it's been my dream kid since I was a little kid. Also, I really like their macro track...which is what I got admitted to. The reason I am still holding onto BU as an option is because there are 3 professors there whose research interests me versus only 1 at UCLA. Hmm...I'm about 75% sure I'll end up at UCLA. What about you?
  17. Whaaat?? Haha I thought it was just me! I'm visiting UCLA next week to talk to an advisor and will be attending the welcome day as well! Why the dichotomy for you?
  18. @MSWGirl 2013: Good point with the Master's students vs the PhD students in terms of research opportunities. Hmm...looks like I have more to look into as I pretty much assumed that I'd get that chance to do research with some of the professors of my choice. Thanks for the wake up call! lol
  19. Hey allybrooke~ You're right...it's definitely different at every school as each school has their particular focus and various levels of rigor. I don't know if anyone could make a confident blank statement about how "intense" all MSW grad programs are. I would encourage you to check the admissions page and get in touch with a current student in YOUR program that you will attend next year. This student can give you specific insight about that program and you will be able to ask them specific questions. I've done that with a few of the programs I applied for and it has been extremely helpful. Good luck!
  20. Also up in the air! Stuck between BU and UCLA. UCLA's program looks pretty freaking sick tho...
  21. Hang in there AYA! You're amazing. You'll get in!!
  22. Just checked my email...got rejected. This sucks...first rejection so far.
  23. @Rho86: What was the concentration you applied for?
  24. I applied to CMH concentration also! Haven't heard back yet. We're supposed to hear back sometime between March 15-22 so it's definitely coming up!!
