  1. I am going to take a moment to congratulate myself on being the first posted Yale rejection, and go drown my sorrows in pizza.
  2. Is anyone else watching undergrads have acceptance meltdowns with a certain sense of schadenfreude right now?
  3. That's the dream, man. There was one a year or two ago that heard back April 13 or something, which is actually the nightmare. Ed. That was an MA but still. Still still. One can hope.
  4. Yeah, I saw that one. I just ask because it looks like the past few years, their PhD admits are really scattered, chronologically. Suuuuper aggro.
  5. Was it somehwere in this thread that I read that Toronto does their MA admits first, then PhDs? Or is that a desperately groping figment of my imagination? I emailed their admin last week asking about a timeline for information for the PhD admits but haven't heard anything back yet.
  6. Bueno, gracias, etc!
  7. I vaguely remember someone mentioning a French for Reading book that was magical and full of wonderment for learning enough to pass the exams without taking a class (Sandberg, maybe?) - is there something similar for Italian and/or German and/or Dutch? Amazon has been less than forthcoming with this information and inquiring (and broke) minds want to know.
  8. I honestly think my boss is more stressed out and taking this more personally than I am, which is hilarious. I just want to know so I can go back to focusing all my spare energy on memes and food and not obsessively checking websites.
  9. That's similar to the schools I'm waiting on (oh la di da, yes we continue making acceptance decisions until like the week before you have to give us an answer, don't stress out or anything), and past years show that their acceptences come really haphazardly two or three weeks apart right up until the middle of April. The other school I'm going to contact Friday, just to get it over with since I'm pretty sure it's a NO and would like to get on with my life.
  10. Well the rejection decisions have definitely been made. Solidarity, meine freunden.
  11. If you want an MA from a solid, if not as name-brand, program, UC Davis' Renaissance scholar, Jeff Ruda, is great. He's a fantastic advisor and a delight to work for, and I think a couple years ago someone did a thesis that was heavy on the interdisciplinary work with an Italian Lit scholar on their panel (it's been a few years so I don't recall the lit person, just that there was one.) They're pretty good about getting people TA and reader work for remission and a pittance, too. Downside, it is a farm town and it smells like cow poo a lot.
  12. Delaware people, can you give us a heads-up on what's going on?
  13. There's also now Texts From Art History that someone sent me yesterday.
  14. Yeah, that's kind of what I figured.
  15. So when does "No news is good news" turn into "No news is no?"
  16. I haven't heard anything from them either, but looking at the last few years, they don't usually send anything until the first week of March. I met several people at CAA and got the impression that their adcomm hadn't even started looking at applications yet, though everyone was very, very nice. ETA: a quick recheck shows that there are acceptances listed as late as the first week of April. Edited again: Someone is in? Do tell, do tell!
  17. Bless you, sir, for this link. Bless you. Who took this picture of me after checking all my application sites? Which one of you?

As I was trying to make a change at a really late date when people were apparently already getting calls directly from DGS, and the system wasn't letting me update it online, I didn't want to trust it to an email that may not get answered for several days (given my experiences with departments and updated information). I was on the phone with the woman for less than a minute, and she very plainly told me that no information was given over the phone and all notifications either way were done by email, and so the phone number was of no concern. Thus, as I think you can understand, my confusion and curiosity. Ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered them at such a hectic time in the year.

Congratulations, Yale acceptances! I'm going to be super nosy because I got off the phone with DGS about an hour ago (to update contact information, one does want to be available should anyone call) and they very curtly told me they weren't calling anyone and all communication was done via email when I explained why I was so eager to make sure my phone number was correct. Was my phone-answerer-admin-gatekeeper-whoever out of the loop? Are you getting official or unofficial notices? Help my sanity, please!
  21. I think this person is the absolute definition of buttmad and I would be glad, Chapel Hill admits, that you lucked out of working with them.
  22. What are the Yale admits specialities, if you guys don't mind me asking? Also congratulations! My envy and curiosity got the better of me for a moment, of course congratulations!

Who got into Toronto? What's your field? How were you notified- did your POI tell you?
