My thought on those rankings is that they want to sell magazines and get people to visit their website and potentially subscribe, so they try to create "intrigue" and would want to change rankings year to year. Take it with a grain of salt, I guess.
But I do know that alumni participation, i.e. monetary gifts, reunions, university "clubs" etc etc is a big part of the rankings.
Can someone post on here when they hear back about financial aid/packages? They said they would be released around the beginning of March, which is now. I'm paranoid that they won't tell you if you get no aid and then I'll be waiting and wondering.
It's okay, I spelled "principal" wrong (spelled it "principle") in a paragraph talking about WHY I WANT TO BE A PRINCIPAL in my statement. Ultimate facepalm. Luckily I had only sent it to UT Austin and was able to submit an updated version...aka I didn't make the dumbest spelling error of my life. They still let me in, so it was fine. I just can't believe that of all the people that read it multiple times no one caught it.
Ugh, thank you. I feel a reassured. I'm hoping that my resume (excellent for an undergrad, if I do say so myself), SOP, and LoR are enough to pull up my GPA. Glad I found people who understand my pointless worry...my friends keep rolling their eyes as I repeat my HGSE countdown.
I've been constantly plagued with thoughts that I should have sent in my first semester grades (great ones in my discipline) after the deadline so that they know I'm competent (feeling good about every part of my application except my ok GPA). Can someone please assure me that 1. it won't matter or 2. I wouldn't be allowed to send them in anyway, even if it's a lie??
I applied to Teacher Prep/MAT and I got an e-mail today asking me to resend my transcript because they couldn't read my old one (because I had to compress it a million times to get it to fit onto their online submission), which means my program is in review. Not sure if they do it on a rolling basis but I got my app in early.
I think this only goes for Teaching and Learning/Teacher Prep because we might all have different days, but does anyone happen to know what the last day to RSVP for visitation day is?
Is there anyone else on this thread that is applying straight out of undergrad? I'm going to grad school to get my masters + secondary certification because I jumped on the teaching train a little late in the game and my undergrad institution only offers MAT + cert. for STEM fields, and I'm not interested in going to the neighboring school we pair with for the humanities. I decided to apply to big name schools because I plan on later getting an Ed.D and working in administration, even though I might not make more than I spend on Harvard in my first years of teaching.
This thread makes me feel young and inexperienced!
I am also disappointed that I haven't received any real paper letters or packages! My friend is going to law school next year and her schools send her bumper stickers and flash drives...
I've applied to a bunch of different schools for an M.Ed + Certification in secondary English and am playing the waiting game. I've heard back from UPenn and Vanderbilt (accepted to both) and am waiting on UT Austin, Harvard, UVA, and UGA. I'm wondering if anyone knows when these schools tend to release their Masters decisions, specifically UT and Harvard as they're my top choices. I'm starting to get really antsy and really want to have some sort of time frame in mind! Thanks!
